Returning home on Monday morning there was a little blue whippet bitch running up and down the street in a panic. Although I live in Sussex, my thoughts immediately flew to Tilly. The poor thing was in such a state I couldn't get near her, even with the chicken I "acquired" from a passing workmans sandwich or trying to bribe her by taking one of my whippets out.
It took me best part of 2 hours to catch her and was so frustrating as she just stayed about 10 yards away from me. The pair of us must have walked miles, even going up the downs and back again. I eventually sat in the middle of the road with a bowl of dog food until she approached me. Good job it's a fairly quiet road!
After establishing with Mally that it wasn't Tilly, rang the police/ dog wardens etc and took her to my vet to see if she was chipped, which she was, but owner lived in Wales, a long way from Sussex!!
I eventually got a phone call from a very relieved owner who was on holiday locally from Wales and had lost "Blue" during a walk on the South Downs and one happy dog and owner were re-united. (shame in a way as she was so pretty, fitted in with my girls well and made herself so at home on my lap that I wouldn't have minded keeping her)
After reading the sad news about poor Tilly, How glad am I that Blue eventually allowed herself to be caught and there was a happy ending this time.
