right i would like to take ruby and star to the odd member of familys house to help the socailise with other people and of course other dogs (fully up to date with jabs dogs).

anyway most of my family and friends stay further than we could walk carring 2 pups and with 2 young kids, and my Oh works 6days so it would be me carrying 2 young pups and 2 young kids :(

anyway i have a small car, 206, and the back seats are pretty much taken up with the kids car seats,

the middle seat could have 2 pups sitting in it (bit of a squeeze) but do you get belt harnesess for 2 pups?? and dont think id be happy with kids perstering them too, as they dont travel massivly well at the min, :x

the front seat has an airbag which can be switched off, but again can you get a harness for 2 pups?

the boot?? i feel they are to small to be put in the boot as i can just picture them ratteling around

the other option is a crate but as my car is a hatchback a crate wont fit in the boot, is it safe to have one in the front seat?

the only opition i can think will work at the min is to put them in the cat box, on the floor of the front seat, but then that deffinatly would be a tight squeeze for them.

has anyone got any ideas on how best to travel with them at the min?

please dont say get a bigger car, as that is the plan, just not for another month or 2 yet :b

as long as they have room to lie down in the cat box and theyre not in there too long they should be o.k for short trips, or will the front seat not move forward and recline so you can get a bigger crate on it

you could allways leave the kids at home :- " (only joking)

thats fine keith, but only if you promis not to cook them anything, dont fancy having to take them to the sick kids and explaining, the sitter thought it was ok to wash the tatties in bleach :- " :- "

 :huggles:

What I would do is get them a harness each and a coupler, which is an extra bit of lead really but can have two or three prongs. I know that as mature whippets they will need a medium harness as all of mine fit that but they will need smaller ones for now. You can always put the small harnesses away for future puppies. :- "

You can also get a special attachment thingy that will clip to the coupler and then go in the seatbelt socket like a normal seat belt. This is what I use for mine. You can get them off Ebay.

I use these harnesses because they come in pink!

It will take a bit of training to persuade them to stay on the front seat and not be in your lap (w00t) but you'll get there. Some are better than others for this. You may want to put them in the back seat to start with and try training the kids not to poke them. Whichever's easiest and safest really.

Remember not to take them out after a meal or you'll have icky pups. Lots of short journeys to start with will be ideal. Take a puppy bag with you similar to the bag you'll have for the kids. It's not a lot different really! :teehee: I usually keep a toy in the car to keep pups amused - one that they only have in the car.

Other than that old Nanny McPhee, or Keithy to you and me, will have to take charge of the kids, and God help them! (w00t)

would you be able to use a dog guard at all ? that way the pups can be in the boot secure and have more room .

im just really worried as they are so small they will rattle about in the boot, also i have a buggy in the boot which could i suppose be taken out now and again, but i also need it on occation so i would like to try keep them out of the boot, in this car,

but like i said in a month or so when i change my car i will hopfully have more room and they will be a it bigger and hopfully used to the car, so i can think about the boot then.

I've used a car harness with Phoebe before I had an estate in which I have a crate. She was like a bag of snakes to start with and could fairly easily riggle out of it even when it was securely fastened so I personally wouldn't try it on a journey without having an adult to sit next to them and keep them calm and secure.

Phoebs used to try and get up onto my lap even in the harness as there is some slack in them as they go onto the seatbelt which is not to be recomended while driving (w00t) . So with training the car harnesses would work but not when they are so tiny.

Could you put one of the kids in the front and borrow a friend to sit in the back?

I would use the cat box if not as it's a short journey. The most important thing to my mind is that kids, you and pups are safe and that wouldn't be the case if they were leaping about and potentially throwing up (w00t) :x
