Well Twiggy saw the vet today and had a full blood work-up done. There were a few levels that were a bit high but nothing outstanding. he has given her steroids for her itchy skin (which I think is due to underlying problem) and antibiotics as her small bowel seems to be involved somehow. In other words, he didn't really know but was covering his bases!!

She is still eating well but not a happy bunny otherwise - keeps scratching at her chest and abdomen and licking anything reachable. Mostly front legs and back feet!

I have to report on progress on Friday. I am seriously thinking of having that second opinion, though not sure where from - I'm not impressed with the new vet in the practise and the woman there only gives antibiotics for everything! She specialises in small animals I'm told.

He wasn't hopeful for her living a lot longer, but I guess he was not very happy anyway as he had put a dog to sleep just before we went in.

Thanks to everyone for postitive thoughts! :)

I don't know where you could go but I certainly think you need a second opinion. Hope you get things sorted for poor little Twiggy soon. :huggles:

It sounds as though a second opinion would be sensible as your vet seems somewhat uncertain. :- " Is it possible to go along to a different vet?

I do hope you find what is causing poor Twiggy to be in such pain. :luck: :huggles: :luck:

Mmmm, I think I would probably push for a second opinion. To be honest, I cannot recommend enough the Davies Veterinary Clinic in Hertfordshire. They were so professional and thorough. Might be worth a look - they have a website if you google them  Hope you get her sorted. Sending lots of :huggles: :huggles:

Hi...So sorry to read about Twiggy.

I`ve just been reading up your thread about her and she is so beautiful.

Thinking of you and hope things improve soon for you. :huggles:

Leave no stone unturned and do the most you can to help her :)

I'm sorry I have no suggestions as I am in the wrong part of the country for you but I certainly agree that you need to consult an interested, knowledgeable and caring vet! :luck: :huggles:

Janet, Im so sorry Twiggy is going through all this... :( poor girl. I hope you find a solution soon, Im quite sure she has a lot more to give yet... :huggles: Wishing you both the best of luck... :luck: :luck:

So sorry to hear this. I'd be inclined to seek a second opinion too, I've found there is a great deal of difference between vets when it comes to diagnosis and attention to detail. Best of luck to her :luck: :huggles:

Thanks everyone. I am going to ring the vet today to get a print-out of the test results (if they'll let me have them) so another vet doesn't need to repeat them. Am also going to ring whippet rescue to find out which vet they use in this area. Twiggy came to us through them.

I am not able to travel any distance these days, so will have to find a vet within about a 15 mile radius.

She is brighter this morning and managed to get up onto my knitting machine cabinet - her look-out post and sun bathing spot -for the first time this week, so maybe the tablets are working. Just 3 days of steroids seems a very short course and the antibiotics, at over £20 for 5 days seems a lot of money (ones I had recently for a tooth problem were £7.50 for 7 days). It's worth it if it works, but I fear it is only a temporary 'fix', so will see how she goes and then see another vet if/when she goes down again.

Thanks again for all the advise - seems pretty unanimous - find another opinion!! :))

I'm so sorry to hear that Twiggy is poorly - please give her a big hug from us.

I hope you can find a good vet close by. We're keeping everything crossed here for her. :huggles:

hope you can get a better opinion soon, antibx don't cure all, she needs proper advise. :luck: :luck:
