If you extend the racing distance - ie 450m. You would be surprised that these so called slower dogs might start to win.You would not expect Paula Radcliffe to win a 100m sprint, but put her on a marathon course and that is a different case.

This is a golden opportunity for the NPWRA to start with some long distances. Weyhill 400m up-hill would not then be considers as so different.

Why stick to 150 yards? Why stick to even poundages groups?

New organisation, new ideas, new rules!!

Not old rules, old problems

No we don't want old problems. The 1st Nationals is over 175 yards. Longer distances might be possible next year if that's what people want. We'll all have to take a vote. Its going to take a bit of time to set up a voting system, constitution, rules, passport system etc which can be done between this season & next. Once its all set up then we can all vote on any changes we want. These 3 champs are just being run at short notice so that none of the dogs doing well at the moment need pass their best and miss out.

The groups are being kept so that the records will still stand.

BTW, Ziggy would prefer 50 yards over which he is quite spectacular - not 400, no!. That would just give the others even more time to leave him behind

Keep the ideas coming.

I'd love to try the longer distances, get yourself a membership Rob, and we'll vote it in :D

It is important that the groups stay the same, as the weight group records are very important - especially to those who have them, and it's nice that they have been acknowledged in the programme at the WCRA, and will be at the NPWRA too. The current half coats are also transfering over, so I wonder who will be the first NPWRA Champion???? Can't wait to see :D

yes I know i am a complete saddo but I like to see the ones Daisy has had a part in helping do well and I'm sure there are more proud owners of slow ones who may feel the same.........
Maybe we could have the 'Specials' for all the puppy trainers out there

Same here .... ALL of my dogs have cleared fighters, pups, novice dogs and this includes ALL of my lot running with dogs with no confidence ....My dogs have always been sound to race with ..... Its great to see these dogs continue on to winning open finals etc .. but after a while you realise how it effects your dogs .... Thats why theres only a few people I'll lend my dogs out too now.. You get no thanks, people don't care when your dog stops at an open cos its been bashed about by the dodgy ones out there on the track and your dogs says "hey not again!!!" ...I ruined Eric and Connie doing this aswell as Vinnie ... People forget how they use your dogs . and what they've done for them and their dog ... -_- ......

Well personally I would like to think that I have always properly thanked the people that I have borrowed dogs from, I know that the steady/reliable dogs are worth their weight in gold and am usually prepared to lend my boys out too, thats what racing is all about.

I certainly remember Miya being a great help Hannah and Daisy Lou and June with Sweep, Nibs & Smidge... the list is endless, but thanks to you all  :huggles:

They all deserve special medals in my eyes ;)

I know that you have Hannah. IMO these dogs are the unsung hero's of whippet racing. I can remember trying to get your Joanna for Whizzy to run with for that first run with another dog. I've also got dogs here that have been out on the track to try to straighten out fighters and also to be the dogs that are overtaken and thus give new pups confidence.

All Alan and myself can say is that we have never forgotten the dogs that helped us with Alchemist and we mentioned them in his Top Ten write up. Like yourselves we will lend dogs to people who are having problems training their dogs.

Everyone who has borrowed Daisy have always thanked us, Daisy has loved every minute of it and is looking forward to the next lot of youngsters.

In case I didnt say it thanks to all who helped with Daisy, Moz and more recently Dexter

hey we got a big love in for all the slower dogs :D nice to see everyone singing from the same sheet ;)

;) i think it goes without saying that most of us are happy to lend dogs for puppy/problems dogs to run with (within reason...i wont see mine to bashed about)

without Mic and Angie (savernakes) id of never got my tribe going, Hannah you also lent me a dog a couple of years ago at Andover and i was very greatful and thanked you as i do anyone who helps me out

peppermint lass has been bashed about by a few trialing pups, and my own final fix was the worst...infact i would only run her with my own, but i know even if a 30lb dog bashed peppermint lass up the track that little dog would never stop....she is just far to committed to the chase to even be aware the other dog is there

south cotwolds club and the dogs were fantastic in getting abbie and amber going and i will be forever gratefull, i do miss the puppy evenings, that is to down your's and julia's dogs and your helpfull advice, not forgetting nigel's help, more clubs need this.

glous are the same they can't do enough to help.

we all help to get puppies cleared, we have used abbie many times to help little ones to run well, is this not why we are here to help.? that is what racing is all about.

how i wish we could get back to those times.

don't worry Dave great things are ahead of us all with the NPWRA, happiness in our hobby is soon to resume

We're never short of dogs to trial with at Gloucester. Daisy helped train every puppy I think, as Mama Mia (another blue) did before her. Maybe blues were born to train puppies  Even our Dangermouse did her bit at the end of last year and beginning of this year at 11 years old - she is so slow, they can easily pass her. She has a dodgy foot now, and although she is quite happy to run and chase the frisbee still, we do worry about her little 15lbs frame competing on the track, so she is officially retired (don't tell her that though :teehee: )

I agree with Julie Dave, the NPWRA is exactly what was needed to bring the sport back to happiness, and it has given so many racers a great buzz, and a new lease of life. I can't believe how many people were saying they had thought about giving up the sport - we can't have that happening, there are few of us as it is - so looking forward to the 1st Nationals in 2 weeks
