Undescended Whatsits And Pee Problems

Hello again,

After sleepless nights with our new Noki, we have settled into a beautiful routine of quiet nights but waking up to pee all over the house. (we have teracotta tiles in the house, so it is cleanable)

Noki is 13.5 weeks and has both testes undescended, he goes dutifully in the yard when instructed but doesn't seem to empty his bladder properly, as he tends to go again once inside after around 1 hour. Could this be related to the missing gear?

I wouldn't have thought so but some of the others might be able to advise on that.

Is his wee stong smelling or a funny colour at all?? It could be possible he might have a water infection if his wee is like that???

But at 13.5 weeks its still quite young for him to be fully toilet trained and he could be caught short in the night.

my 10 month old boy as both testes undescended and it doesnt interfere with his waterworks at all ,i did find with all my pups at a young age needed to be put out for a wee every hour,and as they got older they can hold it longer,but through the night you have to get up with them to let them out at least once or they will go on the floor,which can then become a habit thats hard to break.

if your finding he is trying to wee more frequently and hes not producing much at all i would take him to your vets to check him for a urine infection.

if you would like some advice about his testes please fell free to pm me and i can tell you a little bit about what my vets have said and our plans for our boy in the future.

Noki's pee doesn't smell strongly, but peeing every hour seems his average during the day. the local vet said around every 2 hours was expected, so hourly might be normal...overnight we seem to get 2 pees, and one number 2. I'm trying to work out the timing so I can let him out in time.

This is exactly what forums are for, accurate information just before you go totally crazy!!

all i know about feeding where pooing is concerned is any food fed to a dog will go through their system within 6 hours, we feed ours at 5pm and they all should have had a poo by the time we go to bed,but it doesnt always work like that for us either and can wake up to a pile from time to time,supose thats life with dogs :lol:

Some whippet boys can be rather slow on the uptake with toilet training, in my experience.

It took Fred ages to learn he couldn't just go in the house if he couldn't get out when he wanted to, and he had to hold on. He does now bark at the back door and I keep him in bed overnight so he forgets he needs the loo in the early hours as he's a bit cold. He isn't the brightest of lads though :b

I did have a whippet boy pup for a couple of months a year or two back and he peed every hour or so (two normal testicles). I could take him out, he'd diligently pee on command, and ten mins later he'd pee on the carpet :- " I tried to take him out every hour but he was only just starting to get the hang after a couple of months.

I think those that started life off in kennels may be a bit slower on the uptake with toilet training, and boys are definitely slower to learn. Your pup sounds normal to me, but don't quote me on it :thumbsup:

In my experience, male or female, the "penny" drops at 5 months old. Some dogs can be trained before this (Albie was, but he was a Spring puppy) and some won't be for ages. In this house anyway the average is 5 months.

he's young yet so I wouldn't worry too much, but it is possible that the undescended testes are pressing on the pup's bladder or ureters; the more dangerous scenario is if the ureters are blocked and the dog can't urinate.

I find that even very young pups will sleep all night through if you take them to your bed ) . I had whole litter 5-6 weeks old and no need to get up, NO accidents eaither.

Your pup maybe getting chilled at night (i am assuming it is still quite cold over in UK), which would make him to urinate more often.

You could also install dog flap so he has always access to outside. :luck: :luck: :luck:

Macha had the same thoughts as me - if the testes are undescended they can be anywhere in the abdomen, so could be causing a problem. Wise to have him checked I think. :thumbsup:

Still time yet for them to drop my pup did not have them at 4months but is fine now he is just a small sized whip and a slow developer.
