sadly fireworks night seems to have had a negative effect. amber held back her labour, finally giving birth on 10th nov. 4 healthy pups, but 6 placentas lead me to believe that something went wrong.

on a happier note, we have 1 black brindle boy, 1 black brindle with white chest-marked boy, and 1 black brindle boy with white paws and blaze on chest.

introducing our surprise...the only bitch in the litter is, wait for it, white pied [so kane is safe, lesley :p ] her only black bits are her right eye, left ear and her nose. i'm in love

if anyone would be interested in buying a pedigree staffordshire bull terrier male, pm me for details [won't be ready to leave until the new year] because, typically, I had plenty of people desperate for bitches from this mating, but none for dogs, and we're keeping our little throwback :D

 CONGRATULATIONS AMBER AND LALENA

I was only wandering the other day how you went on

any piccies please?

Well done Amber what a clever girl  :huggles: sorry I didnt get your message until after you'd gone lalena :( I'm glad you're back :huggles:

Of course we need piccies of the babies    so send them to me if you like and I will share them for you :D

I think kane has the makings of a staffie  he's so well built (w00t)

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS!!!! :huggles:  :huggles:  :huggles:

And what a surprise you had when the bitch came out!! I'd loved to have seen your face!! I bet it was a picture LOL

Can't wait to see the pix and glad that you are back online again.

Do you think she absorbed the other two then? :(

Hope Amby is doing well and her lovely babes are too. :huggles:

Are you back up and running with the same email addy?? I have some piccies for you! :D

at least they are all safe and well now :huggles:

congratulations on your new babies

fingers crossed I successfully sent some pics to lesley jusy now. I say fingers crossed because i'm not fully online yet, i'm on stephens phone right now, which is a pain in the proverbial :- "

wish I could've seen my face! i'd thought ambers recessive gene was golden brindle, but stella, ambers dam, has conclusively passed on HER recessive gene...so we have a throwback  the stud owners are slightly miffed, because, conclusively, not only is ambers dominant gene dominant over the sires dominant, but her recessive is dominant to his recessive, which must be gutting  it wouldn't have been so shocking if any from the last litter had emerged pied. bless her, 1st glance I thought she looked like a drowned lab rat :teehee:

dante was formally introduced a few days ago. all went well, and he's crazy about them, though he's not sure about the strange noises they make lol.

yesterday they attacked ambers food bowl, and though its early, i'm starting weaning, because these are draining amber more than the last litter , strangely. I mean, the smallest at birth weighed 12oz, and staffs are usually around 8oz. they were all just under 2lbs at 1wk  they are little chunks, girlie especially [her trick is to sit on the others if they have one of the back teats and burrow down, shove them aside until she has it! honestly, 11 nipples, 4 pups, but they still squabble

but yes, I can access emails on aol [nightmare, keeps telling me my aol session has expired so every 4 pages I have to login again]

how did your whelping go pam? details woman!

Congratulation! Glad your bitch did not whelp on fireworks night. If you have a white puppy that means both your bitch and the sire have to have the extreme white gene. As white dog has to have a pair of these, one from each parent. The white dog then can have genes for any other colour, but it is only concentrated to the spots.

never knew that, but how do other recessive colours fit in, such as blues etc? having looked at the studs other litters, he's only thrown black brindle and a few golden brindles. saying that, most of the dams have also been black brindle like him, so their recessives could be anything  but his being white could explain it, though the markings are exactly like ambers grandad, whose pet name is bullseye. her grandma is a black brindle. ah sod it :teehee: i've got a gorgeous pied girlie! saying that, shes not my pick of the litter. the darker 2 boys are divine, personality wise and physically. if we didn't have dante i'd be inclined to keep both of them, they are just so loving and sweet. because amber was much more confidant this time around, shes been very relaxed about us going in, cleaning and moving them in order to do so, so already these babies are people orientated.

teething has begun, and they've started trying to chew on one another, resulting in the beginning of growling [tooooo cute! they take themselves so seriously, but christ are they comic!]

 Congrats i bet they are absolutley gorgeous!!!! cant wait to see the pics

Well here they are and all gorgeous but little whitey OMG I'm in love

The colour of a dog is determined by several pairs of genes. Some decide the base colour, others markings (brindling, masks), another one if the animal will have full pigment of the black bits or be blue dilute, and one pair controls the distribution of pigment. White is not a colour, it is merely absence of pigment. The extreme white gene suppresses the expression of the other colour genes. The white dog still has the other colour genes he inherited from his parents (whatever that may be), they just have no pigment to work with except sometime in the few little spots. This website explains it in much more detail;

colour genetics

If the other bitches mated to the same dog did not have the extreme white, there couldn't be white one in their litters, but any of his pups may carry this gene. I t will againe pop up somewhere in the future when they get mated to anoyher animal carrying the same gene.

They are totally scrummy Lalena!!   I can see why you would want to keep the little girl.

Whelping went fine,I will send you some pics via email.

thanks guys, and thanks for that seraphina, i'm definitely going to print that off. genetics in any form fascinate me

we have named the boys: 1 with horseshoe shaped white on his chest i've called jd [going through a 'scrubs' phase  ] joshua has named the boy with the most white axel [from some kids cartoon] the black boy seems to have been caught with buster, as he's so cheeky! our girlie is still unnamed as yet, though i've thought of the perfect kc name. just waiting for them to come over with the green slip and I can get that sorted.

weaning so far has gone well, and amber is looking relieved at 1 less feeding session for them. can't say I blame her, her undercarriage is shredded , but excepting madam, its tricky trimming claws
