Hi there everyone.
Once again it's been longer than I would have liked since I last updated you all on our little man. Rest assured, I check the forum reguarly and catch up on news, I just never have enough time to sit and add a thread! But, today I finally can
Well, it's now been over 22 weeks since his amputation operation and he is doing fantastically well  ... but it hasn't all been plain sailing the last few weeks...
It was the 9th Jan and my dad came downstairs to a very unwell Jesse. There was sick on the carpet and he was really struggling to breathe. He was panting constently and wouldn't walk or move an inch. We could tell straight away that he was really struggling, and so took him to the vets as soon as they opened that morning.
The vet listened to his chest but were unsure about what was causing the trouble breathing. Also, they were unsure if they should prescribe any drugs because of Jesse's on-going chemo for his amputation  and so had to contact Anderson Sturgess (Veterinary Specialists who are dealing with his chemo) to check.
During this time we were allowed to take Jesse home because we live a meer 2 minutes away, and Jesse finds the vets very distressing. But he got progressively worse, so much so that he couldn't even lift his head let alone walk anywhere or sleep.
We took him back to the vets later that day, where he was put on oxygen, had an intravenous antibiotic and a chest x-ray. Having to leave him while he was in such distress was awful, but of course it was for his own good.
We got a phone call later that day to tell us we could come and collect Jesse. They told us that the x-ray showed small food particles in his lungs. This was probably caused by some sick being swallowed back into his lungs. Due to his chemo, his immune system is very low, so this got infected... and the outcome? ... Pneumonia. :'(
Thankfully, we could take him home that night but he was given an antibiotic injection because he was refusing to eat so a tablet would have been difficult. Of course, noone wanted to leave Jesse alone for the next few nights so we alternated who would sleep on the sofa (or not sleep as the case may have been) to keep our baby company and make sure he was ok.
We had to take Jesse back to the vets every day until Saturday, but over those 4 days he refussed to eat ANYTHING (which is very strange for Jesse... who will usually eat anything you offer!) It wasn't until Sunday that he finally accepted some homemade sugar-less custard, and miraculously from then on he began to improve! I always swear my mums cooking is the best... now I swear by it even more!
All together he lost over 1.5kg due to the pneumonia, but thankfully today he has had his last antibiotic and our little man seems to be back to his normal self again
Here's a photo to prove it
Sleeping and snuggles are what Jesse does best!! :- "
The only decision that is left to be made, is whether to continue with Jesse's chemotherapy. It has caused his immune system to be so low, and with his new-found 3 legs we really can't risk him catching some nasty bug and getting ill AGAIN. He has been put through so much, and it's not fair. What does everyone think?
Hope you're all okay and all those Whippies are keeping out of trouble!!
Lots of love,
Emma and a much happier Jesse
