Hi I work for a global vaccine manufacturer and all my dogs get their puppy jabs and no more your oldie will have a vast immunological memory i would not bother

I do the same and the puppy doesn't have their first vaccine until they are over 12 weeks old as they have their mothers immunity ...... So agree with Patrick and wouldn't vaccinate your oldie again )

under normal circumstances i would say dont have him vaccinated but with u getting a puppy i really think u need to, u have got to way up wots worse a bad skin rash or pavo

is it true that the lepto jab only lasts for 6 months because i asked my vet and she said no it lasts for a year

I'm so glad this has come up! I vaccinated both mine last year and my 12 month old had a very bad reaction to the kennel cough one up his nose, he had a headache and was listless for five days...I am going away in June with my usual dogsitters so will have to kennel them then.

Both local kennels require an up to date kennel cough vaccine as well as boosters in date ahhhh! I don't know what to do...he was only 8 months old for the last kennel cough one, so do you think that another year on he will cope with it better?

this is a very good thred and gives lots to think about in the end they are our dogs so we must do what we think is best no one is gonna think any the worse of you for your decisions i had 2 greyhounds years ago both were regularly jabbed for lepto i took them to a race one time and after the race the both drank some water out of a barrel on the side of the gate going out of the track just a sip as we were passing a few days later the bitch had died of lepto after being in the vets but the dog showed no signs so whos to say why ( they were brother and sister)

There simply isn't a right or wrong. Patrick is spot on, you make up your own mind with the evidence put before you and make a decision you can live with and the consequences that come with it.

A dogs response to vaccination is entirely individual. For every vet paper saying one should booster annually there'll be others arguing every 3 years and others saying don't booster at all. Trustworthy, independant research is difficult to find and I suspect more often than not research is funded by the pharmaceutical companies like so often is the case in medicine.

No-body likes getting sued and I expect any vet cornered by their paying client is going to go straight for the CYA policy (Cover Your Ass).

There is, however a solution for those who simply cannot make a decision. Titer testing.

The other thing is, if everyone took their dogs in for titer testing rather than vaccinating, it would provide the vets themselves with a huge amount of independant research to work with.

Great Thread. Even Vets cant agree about annual boosters. I am lucky in that my vet will advise if there is an outbreak of Parvo or distemper in the area, He will also do the two initial vaccinations for the price of one if the vaccines lapse in older dogs.

Does anyone use the homeopathic vaccines instead?
