Can sombody give me a grid/map ref or postcode for this and I'll try out the new Mini toy on Sunday ? Thought Sue was sending me details but not got owt yet!

It's easy ............Turn left off junction 14 M5 ......follow that road right until the end when you'll come to a cross roads .......turn right here, then not far along this road turn at the 1st left, ........continue along this road passing a quarry on your right hand side, then you go down a dip then turn 1st right after the quarry and its bound to be sign posted from there ..........easy  .......If this takes you any longer than 5 minuites from the motorway then your lost (w00t)

Why do you think I have just shelled out for a GPS system! :b

which way would you be coming to turn left off J14 - from north, south, east or west?

Or better still could you PM me a specific address/road. Coming from Bristol it looks like we won't do the motorway but nip round the ring road.

Ta!

Helen

Do you not trust my directions ??
Hannah you know that I have the navigational skills of a blind/senile hedgehog! :b

I like to get there at 200mph, even if I find that when I get there it's the wrong place! :clown:

Directions copied from the entry form:

Wickwar, Sunday 3rd October 2004.

First dogs in slips at 10am.

Directions - From the M4 J18 take the A46 to Stroud. At the traffic lights, by the Cross Hand Hotel, take the left hand filter, turn left down the hill towards Old Sodbury. Just past The Bell pub there is a large roundabout, take the last exit onto St. John's Way. Turn right at the T-junction towards Wickwar. Travel for four miles and once at Wickwar go down over a hill and turn left at the traffic lights. Take the first left signed posted Cromhall. At the fork in the road go left and after 200 yards take the first gate on the right.

Entry to the ground is by programme only, £1 per person (children under 16 free).

All dogs will run for 400 yards uphill in pairs from slips, graded by breed, height, weight and age.

No it's at Wickwar which famously blew up when a gas main exploded a few years ago.

Actually it's not in Wickwar High St where the above happened but north of it. Hmm Maybe north west of it. ;) Go through Wickwar and out the other side till you get to the traffic lights. re Nigels directions.

We will be there and given who we are running we'll be able to give you a hand with your dogs Scott. BTW Hannah's directions at least come from the right direction ie the M5.

If we ever bother to actually work out which way we are going ie off the M5 then I'll post directions on here. But I expect as we have some knowledge of the area Alan having lived around there most of his life we'll just go by our noses. In which case as it'll be Alan's nose not mine expect us around teatime. :b

Hope you don't think these are silly questions but four hundred yards straight ? No turns?

How does the lure operator judge the distance between lure and dog at that distance?

Is the lure op. at the beginning, end or half way? What do you use as a lure. Plastic or fur?

If it's fur and it rains do you have a problem with heavy lures? You know, lack of power.

We'll let you know Tony. :)

Last time that Sue and Terry ran one of these it was in a different venue. Only 200 hundred yards up a steep hill. Old age means that I can't remember where the lure operator was but I know that you couldn't see the finish from the slips.

I know that greyhounds etc are run where we are running on Sunday.

Got the GPS working now so should be OK!
Ahh .......but you are coming to Wickwar where you can't get broad band or mobile phone signals  .......As a matter of fact it's a spooky place  .....I worked there once ......Very frightening (w00t)

How long will the racing go on? (Just wondering if we'll be there all day and I need to make up sandwiches and flask etc!)

Helen

edited to add: I thought I'd asked this question before, but can't find it so maybe it was on another thread - we're coming as spectators, never seen whippets race before and are very excited, but CAN WE BRING A NON-COMPETING DOG?

I'm setting off at 7am, hoping to be there for 10am. Would expect it to go on for a while cos from what I understand it'll be only 2 dogs running at a time, you then need to get the lure back, etc. So I'd bank on being there all day, just the one sugar in my coffee Helena! o:)

(I'd assume that you can bring your dog as long as it's on a lead! But only assume! :b )

For anyone else who's coming to spectate, you can bring your dog (on a lead). I just checked with Sue on the contact number at the start of the thread. I'm really excited!
