Venture Hill-sprinting Club

I'd like to place on record my thanks to Sue and Terry Ward, and to all who helped arrange today!

The weather wasn't that nice but the ground was superb and a good time was had by all. :D

Mel the slipper was excellent, as usual, and hats off to the lure driver. He must have eye sight like the proverbial ****house rat, the way he kept the lure just infront of the dogs!

Congratulations to all the other stake winners. 8)

Forest (Half a Chance) would have run all day if I'd let him! ;) Amazes me that some of the dogs weren't even panting at the top of the hill! :sweating: (I know I was each time I walked up it! :b )

Also thanks to Helen, Hannah, and Jane for helping me with my dogs. :huggles:

Hope you don't think these are  silly questions but four hundred yards straight ?  No turns?
How does the lure operator judge the distance between lure and dog at that distance?

Is the lure op. at the beginning, end or half way? What do you use as a lure. Plastic or fur?

If it's fur and it rains do you have a problem with heavy lures? You know, lack of power.
In reply to your questions Tony .......here goe's

Yes 400 yards straight, starting off flat then hitting a hill :D

The lure driver had binoculars at the top of the hill, and the lure machine was fab  .....The lure machine was a car that was slightly lop sided, with the line being wound around the wheel of the car.........the more rev's of the car, the faster the lure ;)

The lure looked like a mutant rabbit from hell, with fur and plastic .........but with that kind of power behind it, it didn't matter that the lure would have got heavier with the rain we had

Thanks for a great day out. Despite the rain and my very cold wet feet I had a brilliant first time (even though only as a spectator, although I DID get to catch a couple of dogs!)

Lovely dogs, friendly people, good burger-van, and a very impressive lure machine.

Helen

edited to ask - what were the results at the end of the day? We had to leave before the end (cold wet children and shivering puppy!)

So was it first over the line the winner as in racing?

Kind of a hybrid if you used a slipper?

It was 4 dog stakes, so the first over the line won, then went up agaist the other winner of that stake .........the losers ran against the other loser, so every dog had 2 runs ..........The racers did the best

As for the rabbit from hell being a hybrid .......It ran up the hill .......Backwards !!!! (w00t)

I spoke to Terry and Sue on Sunday and they mentioned that they may try to run it on a more frequent basis. If I hear anymore I'll let you know!
