Jimmy's going in for an operation tomorrow to have a wart on his side removed that's starting bleeding slightly.  We hope he's caught it on something (the straps on his harness run near it), rather than it being anything more scary. He's had it since we've had him and were made aware of it before we adopted him.  He's his usual loving and boisterous self when out and about, so fingers crossed this will be the end of it.  Still, I'm nervous like you wouldn't believe

It's always a worry. I hope it all goes well.

We had an old lady once who was covered with warts, she had quiet a short coat and they showed a lot, there were 3 large ones on her head, and no one liked to stroke her there! Poor old thing was very much a contact sort of dog and loved her strokes from anyone who would give her a few minutes. She had a very large one that was growing just below her eye. We decided that even at the grand old age of 12, we would have some of her warts removed.

Everything went fine, the vet removed 12 in total and she recovered quickly afterwards. She was so much happier afterwards as more people were stroking her !

I'm sure everything will go well for you both.

Best wishes.

Here are a couple of pictures of her warts. She was PTS 6 years ago, but it was nothing to do with the warts!!

Thanks for the replies  He's back home now, with a shaved square on his side and one vicious looking scar.  So far he hasn't scratched/nibbled it directly, but he has scratched and nibbled the surrounding area. Post op check this evening, then 7 - 10 days wait for analysis of the wart, so the nerves will continue.  I was sooooo glad to get him back home yesterday.  He's a little quiet and reserved, but seems to be slowly getting back to normal.

@excuseme - my goodness, those are indeed some warts!

Sending love to Jimmy! I expect he's receiving lots of cuddles

Well, we put a t-shirt on Jimmy to stop him scratching and licking his wound, not that he was doing it that much, but last night the cheeky little devil managed to work out how to take it off!  He's managed that two or three times now, and has had a little nip and scratch.  Rather than go straight for a cone, we're going to try a dog body suit which will be harder for him to remove.  Hopefully this will stop any attempt at nibbling/scratching!

Well, the dog body suit designed to stop dogs licking and scratching at surgical wounds has been a reasonable success, just be careful with the sizing!  We also had the results back last night from the analysis of the wart he had removed and we were told it was a benign lump of skin.  Phew.  Thank you all for the earlier kind posts  :)

Great to hear it's benign! Hopefully Jimmy will recover quickly with his lovely body suit!

Thank you.  He had his "sign-off" visit at the vets yesterday, all is good, just waiting for the scar to heal and fur to grow back!
