fine as usual then on here I stand corrected

I love this site

according to this site my dog has 1 ball

its ok for certain members to kill something on the ban list but not others

I am not allowed to let people use my dog on other breeds for his working ability

I am not allowed an opinion

And every win I ever had in the coursing field was a fluke because I know nothing

Of course you are allowed an opinion ... two adults can air differing opinions without falling out over it. As to the rest ... I have no idea what you are talking about, but it surely has no place in a thread congratulating Mally on his prowess both as a breeder and conditioner of dogs like Vixen, and as a photographer.
 
and I was only saying maybe Mally was the better conditioner,

I was also only warning some one to be carefull on what you say about killing things as I have been warned about this from mods and knowing how quick everyone turns on you here I even put the link to DEFRA as proof and I got turned on about that and no doubt if I had posted about squirrels someone would have reported the post as they are wont to do here.
 
If you read the DEFRA link it says that if your dog runs after a squirrel in the park, the owner WOULD NOT be prosecuted for hunting, which is just as well because they would need to have officers in every park in the land...hunting is INTENTIONAL pursuit of quarry with dogs. Your dog chasing squirrels in the garden is not intentional hunting. My two caught a bunny a couple of months ago but as I didn't tell them to, or take the bunny home for the pot, there was no intention to hunt there.

I know she looks really fit in the photo's but i know she still has a bit to go before i she's fully fit. The ground has been really hard around here and i've not been able to do as much as i'd like with her plus she's just out of season.

My friend is visiting for a couple of days and we were out lamping last night. It wasn't a good night as there was no wind and it's a full moon at the moment. However we managed a respectable bag. Vixen picked up a cut just above her eye as she chased a rabbit through a blackthorn hedge, thankfully it's not too bad i cleaned it when we got in and it looks alot better this morning. I'm judging my friends first heat in the lamping competition tonight so Vixen will be rested until tomorrow night when we'll be lamping again.

I always guage fitness on the amount of time it takes for the dog to recover after a run, Vixen is blessed with good stamina and fortunately i never have to wait between giving her runs. I put this down to two things her breeding and the way i exercise and work her. I only keep the amount of dogs i can actually keep fit and work on a regular basis. I don't see the point in keeping loads of dogs and not being able to give them the work they deserve, i don't consider it fair to train a dog to work and then not work the dog on a regular basis.

I have decided to breed from Vixen in the spring as i would like another pup to bring on, after over 8 months of looking i've finally managed to find a suitable stud dog, he's simply stunning standing at 20" and around 34lb. I'm not revealing his identity as yet.

Fingers crossed for you and Vixen, Mally.

I am sure she will be fantastic. Looking foward to hearing how she gets on.

Also will look forward to hearing the pitter patter of tiny paws next year. :cheers:

yes but if you read the full version it does say how ever if you allowed a dog to constantly get into that situation you could be

Now you are really are muddying the waters ... that was my reply in a different thread ;)

And I agree, Mally is a brilliant conditioner of dogs ... my point is that as the proud owner of Vixen's litter brother I believe that part of Vixen's superiority lies in her breeding (and I doubt that Mally or the breeders of her sire and dam would disagree with me there). Thing is I don't believe myself to be a brilliant conditioner of dogs but Finn doesn't lag far behind his sister even so ... I stand by what I said, you can't condition what isn't there, or to turn it around in Vixen's case (and Finn's) you have plenty to work with from the get go.

Annie, dont die of shock but i do agree, some dogs are more easy to condition than others, (not taking anything away from Mally). Vixen and Finns dad is one of those, although correct food, excercise do have a lot to do with it.
 
mil.jpg Here's Milly, does she look overweight, ? I have trouble trying to keep her weight down. We go out every morning about 10 ish with Poppy and get back around 12/12,30. They have good run around and out again most nights.
 
I agree with Vixen taking some of her qualities from the stud dog but no one has mentioned jess during this thread. Jess has obviously put her stamp on the pups giving them good bone and a sound temprement etc. Jess was also an outstanding working bitch with a very good temprement. Jess also had the do or die attitude when out working she always gave everything, a quality she's passed onto vixen without doubt...

I'll let you know how we get on in the lamping comp, our heat is at the end of the month

Jess was a lovely bitch Mally, that's why I mentioned the breeders of Vixen's sire and dam in my post. I have always said Finn is as much like her as he is his sire. You must miss Jess very much but she lives on in her beautiful daughter :)

Yes annie did mention this and i apologise and stand corrected :huggles:

As far as conditioning goes with Vixen it really is quite easy and i put this down to the breeding. I chose a stud dog with natural muscle tone of a very good type to put to Jess who also had a good natural muscle tone. All that is required is a good diet and exercise routine to keep vixen in top condition. Vixen actaully loses quite alot of weight when working, were out ferreting all day somedays and lamping on the same evening and it's not uncommon for her to lose over a lb over the day. I feed raw lamb and chudleys greyhound racer as it's the only food that i can get weight back on her quickly. If i want weight on her i give her 3 smaller meals a day over a couple of days.

I also agree with annie's statement, 'you can't condition what isn't there' my friend who works his whippet alongside vixen actually walks his dog alot further than me on a daily basis struggles to get her in condition. She's alot slighter than vixen and just doesn't have the bone or muscle tone to carry condition. However you can't take anything away from the little bitch she gives her all out in the field, although it does take it's toll on her. She takes longer to recover and loses weight but she enjoys it, as does her owner and thats whats it's all about.

I believe people who have working dogs should consider using show dogs more often as an outcross to there working bitches. There are some real quality dogs out there that are of correct type with fabulous muscle tone, i also think they are more laid back and take to training better than the racing lines...

We had a good nights lamping on friday night and vixen is getting there. Pity about saturday morning though when i woke up to the dreaded Swine Flu!!!!
