Hi all,

My first post here! After the death of my not so keen lurcher Ali last year we adopted Ted the longdog (deerhound / greyhound / saluki I am told) He is as keen as mustard, and I'd like to have go at lure coursing with him. He's not brilliantly socialised yet but plays well with the other dogs we meet and is never aggressive.

Does anyone know of some small scale, informal events near Staffordshire that we might go and observe with a view to seeing how things are done and how he reacts to the event? (and perhaps give him a trial run).

Cheers,

Gareth

For reference, here he is.

Hiya, We have just got a lure for our own dogs and race just for fun in a field at Stapeley Water Gardens where i work. If you would like to come for a try out i will let you know when we are next playing!

Cannot run just at the moment as the sheep are lambing in the next field and although fenced we dont want to upset them

They should be gone in a few weeks time.

Pm me for more info if you fancy a go, I run whippets and my mate runs a couple of lurchers, Its just for fun no competitions as yet. Jan

For some reason I have just had a burst of e-mails about the replies to this thread long after they were posted! We'd love to come over to Stapeley way when the sheep are finished lambing.

Thanks (belated!) for all the replies.

The next session of the Original Irish Wolfhound Coursing Club is on Sunday, February 10th at Brassington.

Teed off that I can't go as I have got to go to a committee meeting that day down in Oxford. 2 of my Whippets have qualified for the final in May, which again is at Brassington.

It's a real good day, especially when you have an Italian Greyhound teaching a young Wolfhound how to course.

No need to take any food, as they do a mean hot dog, burgers and hot soup when it's at Brassington and there's a good raffle too.

It costs £2 per dog and the food etc is paid for by a donation.

One of my lot is so keen that he thinks everytime he goes out, he must be going coursing, he was so disappointed when he saw the benches at Manchester recently, looked at me as if to say, I've been hoodwinked!
