Got this from another dog site - dont know if you guys are aware but have posted it anyway

In the last week or so at least 4 dogs are known to have died from a mystery

virus in the Norwich area and a number of others have been seriously ill.

Symptoms are sickness, diarrhoea & respiratory problems but it is definitely

not Parvovirus. Most of the dogs that died were unvaccinated puppies but it

has affected vaccinated dogs as well. So far they have all come from the

Mile Cross & Lakenham areas as far as we know. The dog warden is keeping

records to try and find a pattern or source and one of the dead dogs has been sent

to Newmarket for a post mortem. It is assumed it is being spread by close

contact between dogs or contact with infected urine/faeces/vomit but they don?

t know for sure.

There should be a press release in the EDP/Evening News tomorrow to warn dog

owners but the only thing we can do at present is avoid areas in Norwich

where we know lots of other dogs have been (especially if they may be

unvaccinated).

Please pass this info on to anyone you know who exercises their dogs around

Norwich

I'm not sure if this is related in anyway but figured I would post it anyways. Its from another forum which I am a member of

it was on the local radio today that a stafford pup and two lurchers were sadly put to sleep following being poisned by algie whilst drinking out of the side of a loch in shetland, reports said that within four hours the poor soles were in a bad way after swallowing the water, the stafford was only eight months of age and the poor lady that owned all three dogs is very sad,r.i.p little girl and also the lurchers

Thanks for posting this. I live in Norwich, not far from areas mentioned, and I walk Freddie in a variety of parks where there are lots of other dogs, and rivers/ broads with algae... Nothing's appeared in the EDP but on Weds I have to take our cat to the vet, so will ask him for more info. No dog walker I've met has heard anything, and it's a fairly small dog walking community. I'm watching Fred like a hawk...

I originally cross posted about this (different topic) on the 28th June so the EDP article should have appeared sometime around then. It would be interesting to know if there has been anymore cases (hope not) and what is causing it.

was at the vets today and it seems there has been more cases but a common fact is all of the badly affected dogs have been in or around mousehold heath in norwich , hope this of some help

This is the latest that I have.

>Following a post mortem of one of the affected puppies, it has now been

confirmed that the mystery virus IS Parvo after all. Seven dogs are now known to

have died, all of them young and unvaccinated, and more are still undergoing

treatment at the vets.

The outbreak is still mainly confined to the Mile Cross area but is slowly

radiating outwards as these things do.

Although it is an awful disease, at least we now know that our dogs can be

protected against it, just make sure all vaccinations are up to date and pass

this info on to anyone you know who may need it.

is there any new info on the parvo outbreak folks??
