A while back on K9 Warwick was described as being a southern venue. Well I went last Sunday from Thurrock (south west essex) and it took us 2 hours 20 minutes to get there. And, people from the north east were getting there in three hours, and racers from Hastings and Portsmouth also travelled for three hours, doesn't seem like a southern track to me???

With all due respect to our scottish racers, I think it would be hard to find a more central track than warwick...

open to discussion again ;)

Paul

I think you'll find it takes those from the North East around 2hrs to get to Askern and it's another 2 and a half to Warwick from there

Did those from the North East fly ?? :clown:

 well fleesh i know some of them speed but shhhh lol  but dont think any of them r rich enuf 2 fly  I wish eh? win the lottery go whippet racing in your own private helicopter    Im getting carried away now arent r

Meriden is a small village only 20 miles from Warwick, and this small place is described as the central geographical point of England . (respects to our Scottish counterparts).

The Geordie fella must of been lying last week then, cos I didn't see any helicopter either :D

I WENT TO WARWICK LAST WEEK I LEFT HOME AT 7-15am ARRIVED AT 9-50 A TOTAL OF 200 MILES , BUT THAT WAS DOING SPEEDS OF BETWEEN 80 & 95 MPH, :luck: I WAS LUCKY THERE WERE NO POLICE ABOUT ,STICKING TO THE SPEED LIMIT I RECON YOU CAN DO IT IN 3HOURS 30MINUTES FROM WHERE I LIVE :D

Gary here, I set off at 5.30 am, pick up my mate Tom for 7 am and get to the track around 10-10.30 and I live in Hastings, East Sussex. I am quite happy with 5 hours as I am used to going to Askern and Kingsley which can take me as long as 7 hours and I have been known to leave Askern at 5 pm and get home at 2 am the next morning. Why do I do it? Because I am barking mad and it allows me to spend less time with my wife! ;)

she saw that.

its alright she gone now :D

there are more central tracks just not non peds tracks !!

how can people disgard scotland when they pick a track. they have the same rights as anyone in the country when it comes to travelling to race there dogs . don,t penalise the scots they must be included when choosing tracks.

I recon they travel further than anyone if they were to race all year round .

donna.

I do not race my whippets on the bends BUT am asking . ...why can't the whippet racers who bend race use a different bend track each year for different events. (if they will have us)........that way everyone will get chance of racing near home.......

Seriously Paul, whats your opinion on the BWRA and the NWRF moving their championships and classics around the regions?

DANNY

Meriden may well be the central geographical point of England but the central geographical point of Great Britain is Dunsop Bridge my point being that if we are talking about catering for all our members nationwide we should be trying to get a track that would take us with suitable facilitys as central as possible. The reason Scottish racers dont do the bends as much is that with a lot of straight opens now centered around middle England it is not possible to do them all. I have done a milage chart that in my opinion proves that Kinsley is probably the fairest track but as we cant use that track we should try and get one close by.

Arbroath To Warwick 387.4 miles.

Kirkcaldy To Warwick 343.7 miles.

East Ayrshire To Warwick 292.9 miles.

Newcastle To Warwick 215.8 miles

Stevenage To Warwick 84.8 miles.

Cullompton To Warwick 147.3 miles.

Thurrock To Warwick 138.8 miles.

Arbroath To Easington 201.4 miles.

Cullompton To Easington 338.3 miles.

Thurrock To Easington 281.0

Arbroath To Kinsley 281.6 miles.

Cullompton To Kinsley 255.3 miles.

Thurrock to Kinsley 198.1 miles.

Arbroath To Meriden 375.7 miles.

Thurrock to Meriden 139.1 miles.

Arbroath To Dunsop Bridge 255.8 miles.

Thurrock To Dunsop Bridge 271.0 miles.

All the above are calculated using a car at the maximum speed limits not towing and give the quickest routes not the shortest. In my opinion if the trend of holding all the major events quite far down south continues people from the north not just Scotland will just give up racing. That will at least cut down on the amount of travelling for people from the south but you will end up racing the same dogs every week and after a while the ones who keep getting beat will give up racing. We should be trying to make our clubs stronger while accepting that open racing is a big part of racing. In my opinion we should be spreading the events about to give all the racers a chance to race at them and those who live to far away from an event either North or South depending on where the event is can race at their club. In my opinion the championships should be rotated or placed as central as possible and if we get the opens spread about right we could get some good racing at the championships as some dogs that have been winning opens will not have raced each other yet. In my opinion this is something that we should be trying to get right or we wont have to worry about traveling as there will be no racing.

As I have said before the travelling is not the only issue here, it is also to do with advantage and disadvantage of home tracks. How it seems to be and always has been, if you live somewhere near Measham---Old Hall -and now Asfordby, you have an unfair advantage over all others whether they are from Hastings or Glasgow or anywhere in between. I can remember this same question being brought up in the early days of the B.W.R.A. Why always run them down there? But there were hundreds of dogs at every club then and lots of clubs very near your own club so there was no need to travel to run with different dogs more than maybe twenty five miles and you could fit two clubs in on Saturday and two on Sunday if you wanted to as I used to do regularly. There was Kirkby-Stephen Sunday morning a couple of pints or so in the working mens club then on to Penrith for the Sunday afternoon meeting. There was racing at Sedburgh Tuesday nights, Lancaster Tuesday nights and Thursday nights so as I said not much need to travel far and wide. At this time we had about twenty clubs or so within a twenty five mile radius and inter-club racing between Lancaster and Stockport or Lancaster and Kirkby Stephen were regular events and also a change with all shouting for dogs from your own club to win- pity all that's gone.

I THINK EVERY EFFORT SHOULD BE MADE TO TRY AND GET RACING BACK AT KINSLEY AS I THINK IT"S NEAREST WE WILL GET TO BEING CENTRAL FOR ALL MEMBERS  8)

Have got to say we think it is the best track :p and the facilities there are brilliant goooood dinners ey michelle.......

i stated a subject very close to this not so long ago titeled bwra moving south, it seemed then as it does now this is a big problem within the sport if there are any b w r a officials reads these topics could they not bring it up at a commitee meeting and adress this because this problem is not going away and is only getting worse this was discussed at our regional meeting,we are a small region fighting for suvivel with the best wills in the world ,our pockets are only so deep every mile you move away from us puts another nail in our coffin so i urge the bwra to look long and hard at this.phil

Why cant we push for kinsley as it seems the way foward.

I DISAGREE WITH THE POINT THAT LOCAL DOGS HAVE THE ADVANTAGE A SCOTTISH BITCH NAMELY BIDDY HAS PROVED THAT POINT ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION (SUP RCH ,CH OF CHs,CLASSIC WINS ONLY GETTING BEAT TWICE, THE LATER IN A PHOTO FINISH JACK CADMEN FINAL,ALL AT ASHFORDBY)THE OPENS SHOULD BE MOVED AROUND THE COUNTRY ESPECIALLY BWRA ,SO IT IS FAIR FOR ALL RACERS TO ATTEND,BECAUSE LETS FACE IT PETROL DOESN'T COME CHEAP.

I have very fond memories of running a Fed event some years ago at what was then a new stadium, the Halcrow stadium at Gretna and this was arranged based on letters received from the scottish racers asking for a bend meeting to be put on nearer to them, and then they never bothered to turn up to race. I do agree that all national events should be moved to all corners of the land, and give everyone a chance, but let's stop talking about going to places that have alredy said no!My point about Warwick being only 20miles from the centre of England was put mainly because it shows that it is not a southern track, and I believe I did say it with respect to the scottish racers.

I agree Kinsley have said no but I also suggested that we should look for a track that would take us as near as possable as in my opinion it would be the fairest for racers nationwide. It is getting harder to race at top events as many are so far south now. I have a great deal of respect for people running events as it is a hard job with very little thanks. I just hope that in the future events can be spread about a bit more so that all the racers can have a go.
