Waterloo Cup Dates

i'll be there all 3 days, Cerito did you say the brews were on you? o:)

I think this year will be a record crowd.

Thermals are out the flask is full so i'm ready.

I feel cold thinking about it!

What do you mean only one set of thermals?

Not sure if I'll go yet.

Cerito

No thank you Paul, i'm not into beating up old men & women and as there is very rearly anything other than that protesting I think we'll have to freeze.

They only stay 1/2 an hour anyway! Its too cold for them, and they're not interested unless they are going to be on TV.

You pay on the day, per person in the car, can't remember the exact cost (£10 springs to mind) but you get a card for the days coursing. It's at Altcar, near Liverpool/Southport. I personally prefer Day 2, cos the field is bigger and IMO the coursing is better. You need to wrap up well cos of the biting cold wind. I personally wouldn't worry about the Antis, they generally only turn up on day 1 when the TV cameras are there. The LACS quote inflated figures but there are usually only about 100 (tops) of the unwashed for about an hour!

I'm sure Mark will correct me if I'm wrong but I think we were there for around 9am this year (2004), bacon sarnies and a brew waiting for the sun to thaw the frost. Think they kicked off at about 10:30!

First day is at Great Altcar here and has the most coursing and the biggest crowd.

You can turn up at any time really but the first course is usually just after 9.30ish but it's not the end of the world if you miss the first few - which is possible because of the queues around 9.00ish. Cost is with a programme and will be £10-15. You can sneak on but don't be such a cheapskate :p

Coursing will last till about 4.00pm ish and there is usually a break about 1.00pm ish after the first beat has finished.

The anti's turn up at about 12 for 1/2 an hour and are then escorted off. They are out numbered 1000 to 1 so don't worry about any confrontation. There are not enough anti's , sabs or other assorted loser layabouts in the country to be able to match the crowd - which is generally very good natured. It's a safer place to take kids than any football match.

It will be cold; No matter how much insulating clothing you take you'll wish you had more. ;) I suggest alcohol, lots of

Sorry for the delayerd reply.

Entry is normaly days 1 & 2 ~ £15 day 3 ~ £10

you pay (in cash only) on the gate as you drive in.

if your not on the entry lane before 8.30am your gonna miss a few courses as theres ofter 5 miles ques to get in after that time so were normaly there by about 8.15am.

As for the Anti's, I normaly take my now (6 year old) for 1 day, normaly the last as it's shorter for him.

I have no worries at all regarding his safty as the lads (and lasses) are a great bunch and there is no way they would stand by and watch 1 of their own get picked on.

the first pair go into slips at 9.30am and are normaly slipped almost straight away (so be there early)
