The letter that went out to club secretaries about the above mentioned meeting is now on The Whippet Club website. whippet club website

Once on the website go to racing and then WCRA meetings notes.

Thanks for the link Barbara, it doesnt make the cancellation of the Champs any better  , but I guess does explain what is going to be discussed.

It also gives us 'general club members' a time scale for thinking up questions for our reps to ask and the deadline by which we have to get those questions to the club sec's in order for them to send them on to the WCRA secretary. At least that's how I read the letter.

So thinking caps on folks. I'm sure that we can all think of a question or two we'd like our club reps to ask the WCRA.

Just bouncing this up again to remind people;-

that our club secretaries have to let the WCRA know how many people are attending from each club by the 11th May. So if like myself you want to attend the meeting and aren't a club rep then don't forget to let your club sec know ASAP.

Also that ANY questions that are going to be asked the WCRA have to be put in writing and sent to Kim Saxby by the 20th May. So for those of us who aren't club reps we need to get those questions to our club secs quickly so that they can be sent on.

Barbara

The article by E.Fitch Dalgleish appeared in his book "Whippets" published 1964. It is well known to contain erroneous information mostly due to his mistaken belief that Black was a recessive colour.

The first download is actually a progeny report that came straight from my database. I was surprised to see it.

The last download is Mary Lowe's Interim report which many of us have already seen. It was posted on the Whippet Club site but Mary asked for it to be removed.

Perhaps you can tell me Julia if Carolina Venture is actually blue or blue brindle. Its not terribly clear.

Mary Lowe does seem to have alot of different opinions. On reading a very informative book written by herself and E.G Walsh (second edition 2004), in the "Racing Whippet" chapter 6 page127, I quote "Most owners and breeders of BWRA dogs are perfectly honest and open about thier dogs' breeding, and are indeed proud of it,and rightly so, since what they have produced is a top-class running dog.It is not uncommon to see Stud and advertisements in the Whippet News (the excellent journal devoted to all BWRA racing news) describing litters or studs as being by or out of a greyhound, or greyhound -cross.Problems resulting from such cross-breeding do not arise within the BWRA but rather within the WCRA, where a small minorityof competitors who aspire to'win at all costs' attempt to infiltrate such cross-breds into the pedigree racing scene. The damage which can be done to the purity of the Whippet is considerable. No breed can hope to retain consistant breed type under constant pressure from the introduction of cross-breeding.Generally speaking it is members of the pedigree Whippet racing fraternity who, through ignorance or competitiveness, endeavour to infiltrate cross-breds into pedigree Whippet racing clubs" unquote.

Prehaps the most knowledgable Mary could also enlighten us on this ;)

yes I think their are quite a few of us who would like to hear a reply on this :-

It seems to me that Mary Lowe's Interim report was obviously removed from The Whippet Club website for a reason, so it is unfortunate that Julia has chosen to put a link to it on here. As now it's back on the internet in the public domain.

Possibly to give time to the people with egg on their faces to think up a way of backing down?

Gavin.

Am i the only one who thinks that before some one would make a statement like this in a book, would have plenty of evidence to support their claim. And who did they know was doing this at that time ?? Are they still doing it ?? I am sure that the majority of us Whippet racers would love for Mary to enlighten us about the claims made in her book.

And also it is PARAMOUNT that the purity of the breed is kept and that we must all strive to make sure that this is the case.

I agree Mandy, but whilst I do hope Mary Lowe will be able to answer in person at the meeting taking place instead of our 2nd Championship, I think she holds little -if no- interest in the Racing side of pedigree Whippets( noted by her attendance record) and would much rather be showing or coursing, alas, I would like to be proved wrong.......... we'll see :)

exactly what i thought

I'm still rather disturbed that an article on colour breeding containing such misinformation as this one does should have been sent out to secretaries. I can only assume that whoever made that decision didn't know enough to realise it.

IMO as the person who has compiled this report Mary Lowe should be there to answer questions first hand otherwise the WCRA might as well just send this report to anyone with a passport?.

IMO it still leaves a lot of questions unanswered.

this meeting has to be open/frank and hopfully we can all work towards a satifactory outcome.

i agree but IMO there is really only one outcome that will satisfy racers   what a sorry state its all in and so easily avoided, i just hope lessons have been learnt, but not at the expense of pedigree whippet racing :(

I don't think Mary Lowe will come down from Cumbria, and by the way, she no longer courses her whippets since this is now illegal! There really should be a whippet club representative at the meeting if for no other reason than to report to Mrs Lowe.

I fear it is exactly that Julie - lessons learnt at the expense of pedigree whippet racing. Big mistakes right from the start, which I fear will not be corrected :(
