your just the man for the job

Think its a peoples welfare officer we need , not dog one...

racing is a stressful hobby......lI am on doing a full report from defra i am in contact with them and have been for a while...so i will post my findings in a few weeks for our members, also i think theres a very good dog therapist going to send me his views on the new defra rules

Maybe a report from Malcolm would be welcoming also ,as i know he is well up on it all too, i was sorry to miss what he had to say at the agm on this matter

I don't think it is? I was led to believe it was to vet the quality of racing homes on the pretence of protecting a dogs welfare. I agree I've never seen a dog that in any way looks neglected, it's not in the best interest of the owner as surely racing performance would be effected. TBH I always felt that drug testing (If done properly) would ensure a dog's well being as I doubt anyone would drug their beloved pet.

I've looked briefly at the animal welfare bill that's coming into place, I think this is designed to give the RSPCA more powers to step in when they're recieving reports of a dog being mistreated prior to it extending to severe animal cruelty and it will apply to every owner of an animal. As for DEFRA the last I heard was they was only interested in protecting the welfare of greyhounds where their well being could well be comprimised because of the financial gains involved.( i.e. Betting)

Surely an animal welfare officer for racing should have nothing to do with out little sport.

Male, prefferably 45-55, dark hair and eyes, and quite well off.

Then I'll gladly show him where Kerri sleeps :D

(w00t) Judith.

behave judith thats why it was decided to have a female welfare officer :- "

what would worry me is are these officers going to be traned and who by I traned for months before I did home checks for sighthound rescues. What are they going to be checking for as even though dogs are rasied well they can all lead very differnt lives for being kennels to living on the sofa and degress of differnc inbetween.

I would quiet happly let any traned person inspect my dogs.

Theres no person unless qualified with police present that could walk into anyones home or kennels unless you invited them...

I really don't think that at the agm when welfare officers were talked about it was to come to your homes, i would think its to do with re-homing of whippets in unusual circumstances ...but as i said with out knowing the true fact of what was discussed i don't know as i did not attend the agm

linda is well trained been doing greyhound rescue for years
