Hello everyone!

This is my very first post. . . although i have been reading advice and posts for some time now and i think this site is really fantastic!

We are really looking forward to collecting our first whippet puppy in about 2 weeks time (w00t) , and i was wondering what size neck he/she is likely ot have at about 8 weeks?

I was planning on getting a cheap nylon one until the puppy is bigger, as advised on the FAQ pages, but what size? Would 11-14" be about right?

Any other important tips about settling in a new pup would also be greatly appreciated!

Laura :)

Hi Laura,

No advise to give re: collar as both of mine were older when I got them...

Just wanted to say welcome to K9... Hope to see some pics of your puppy soon.. In the meantime can you give us any info? Breeding, colour etc (we love a good look at puppies here as you have probably gathered)

hi,

We just got our first whippet pup about 6 weeks ago when he was 8 weeks old (is that all....seems like a lifetime ago!). Initally we bought a cheap puppy collar and lead set from pets at home for about a fiver but found his neck was too small so had to but him a kitten collar for the first few weeks until he grew.

He is now 14 weeks and is just growing out of puppy collar.

I use cat collars for puppies. Generally speaking, their neck is 11" - 14" when adult.

Welcome to K9. :)

hi and welcome to k9,i get another pup this sunday and weve bought him a nylon collar which is adjusable from 9" to 12" this should last him for a fair while until he gets bigger and stronger.

good luck with your new pup :luck: :luck: :luck:

My latest pup is almost 11 weeks old, when I measured his neck for a recent collar - hes was a mere 9inches and that was slack.

All pups will be different though, and I know some people use a soft cat collar until they can fit into a small puppy collar. :)

I would measure him when he arrives then look at different designs, and see which you prefer.

sorry forgot to say Welcome to K9 and good luck with your new puppy too,
