I do not have a lot of room but would like to get a crate for my two whippets. Whats the smallest I could get away with, I was thinking of the 42in.

Also can anyone recommend a good seller for crates.

Thanks

It depends on how big your whippets are really Jeff  I have 2x 48" 2 whippets in each and there's bags of room so 42" should be fine as long as they are not really big whips :)

Ebay is quite good for crates

There's some crate info in the FAQ forum

Link is here:http://www.k9community.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=11540

scroll down to section 3.

There's a link to a previous discussion about sizes.

As far as I remember, the advice is - the bigger the better! Get the biggest you can afford/have room for

I must be very cruel then, I have my 2 in a 36inch crate, they only sleep in it though and they are both very small for whips :D

Forgot to add, I got my metal crate off ebay and my fabric one from an online shop the roof rack shop its under dog accessories, right down at the bottom of the page, they also do metal ones

Heres another site - where I bought my latest crate - excellent service.

I use these people and they're excellent. I must be really mean because I've got my 2 largeish boys in a 36" and the 2 much smaller girls are in a 30". They're only in there to sleep and there have been no arguments, bless 'em. My greyhound Claire likes to get in the 36" when she can!

Thank you for the replies. I have ordered the 42in crate from www.doghealth.co.uk

Just need to coax them into it now :sweating:

If you put some comfy bedding in there and if you can put a cover over it to make it into a den(I used a duvet cover) then leave the door open they will probably go in by themselves :) once they get used to it you can shut the door for short spells, they wont feel it is a punishment then

I am also looking for a dog crate - a 30" which will go in my car - for one whippet only.

The ones I am considering are Dog Health - up and over door - £33 +pp on Ebay, and they also do a cheaper one for £14 +pp [black epoxy]

And SMW 30" up and over door [in blue, black or pink] £21,99 +pp

and they also do a cheaper light-weight one at £13.50 +pp

Has anyone any experience of these and if so which would they recommend please?

Maggie

I have several crates, huge wire one that fit Borzoi, 29" plastic travel cage and 31" VariKennel which i use to fly my dogs. I would use the large wire crate if i needed to confine Whippet for a long period of time and wanted to leave food and water and space to stretch. I used the travel crates when the pups were born and i did not want Callista and Stella going to investigate them at night or when i ran out to the shops. I would put one in each, but soon they decided they prefer to squash together in one. :D

Crate was delivered next day and looks to be good quality. Dogs have taken to it well and happily sleep in it.

Last night they slept in it all night with the door closed with no problem.
