I don't know what the trouble has been but think that blame can be laid in all camps and like in life it's often six of one and half a dozen of the other.
I can't see anything wrong with showing/working or just keeping whippets etc as pets, it's surely each to his own.

I thought the whole point of all the different sections on a forum was so everyone could post and enjoy sharing their different pursuits.....hence why I don't really post in showing or working/racing sections( other than to admire someone's dog)because my whippet is simply my much loved pet.

much like every level of life there will always be a small number of people who cause bad feeling or upset and the thing to do is ignore them....i would not let someone's comments spoil my joy of my dogs or my desire to share that with others.......if someone makes a negative or inflammatory comment on a thread, the best response is to ignore it and just carry on sharing the greatness of our dogs...at the end of the day it's the dogs themselves that matter and maybe sometimes people need to put their sensibilities to one side and just enjoy the forum as it is intended to be.......any arguments and negativity only win out and spoil the forum if we let them.

The forum can only die if we all just let it. I am a member of several forums and enjoy different aspects of all of them which is why i cannot choose and say whether one is better than another....there are (on all the forums I am a member of) a few people who are just of an argumentative nature, some are quite rude, others quite stupid but there are an awful lot of really decent, really friendly and really great people who all want to share the joy of their dogs and the things they do with them.

The forum is what we make it and maybe just blaming a small group of people is a bit unbalanced since we too are forum members and we can still make it a good place to visit......
Could not agree more. There are sections relevant to everyones interests.

It is a pity when some posts end up in the wrong section and petty bickering breaks out.

I must have my eyes shut then lol....I seem to miss most of the negative stuff :teehee: the joy of not actually knowing anyone (w00t)

Excellent post. Thanks.

seem to miss most of the negative stuff, try posting about catching anything intentionally then quicky put a helmet on, K9 is famous for the bitchiness dished out
Am not unhappy to have missed it but you're just fuelling the flames of aggravation by posting this comment though aren't you...I mean we're on a thread talking about the alleged loss of people and good karma on this forum but to say that if you post certain things the bitchiness will come out is simply antagonising a situation you're already unhappy with...

.all of my above post was to say we are ALL responsible for the atmosphere on k9 and it isn't just down to the few trouble makers to spoil it but down to all of us not to let them do so and that does include you sir...and me of course. :)) I don't care what you catch or what other people don't catch....I'm just here to enjoy the dogs in all their pursuits, but keep bringing up the past aggro will not help the forum move forward......this is my opinion and not intended to cause you offence so please do take it in the good spirit that it is intended. It's just that we're all adults and collectively responsible for how good or bad a forum is........ :*

This forum used to be a great place to chat, look at whippet show results, general chat about whippets. Where has everyone gone?????????????
I was thinking exactly the same thing. :( It seems very quiet these days. Are people using Facebook nowadays or other forums? :-

I put a few photos on Chit Chat a couple of days ago and haven't had one comment.
Think I may be a bit to blame for everyone toddling off to Facebook! :b I remember asking on here a few years ago if there's anyone who would be my Facebook friend as I didn't have many friends, and that seemed to start everyone off adding everybody else!!! Now, I'm sure some of you were already friends by then but I do sometimes look back and feel a bit responsible! :-

I confess I put most of my photos on Facebook these days as it's so much easier to upload them without having to use photobucket. But the quality isn't as good on there as on here. I must try harder to get things on here as I'd be really sorry to see it falling into disuse. It was great when I found this site soon after our first whippet had died back in 2005 - it was lovely to see photos of everyone else's whippets, and I've also made some good friends because of K9 - some 'real' and some 'virtual', but all people I class as friends none the less.

I'm off to look at your photos now Sarah and apologies for not looking before :)

I remember meeting Gillian on here when she lost Josh...I lost my Chip in 2004 and joined K9 after searching for Whippets on the internet....

I loved this forum and have met some lovely people and whippets through it.....Pamalkie with Jilly and Jakey too...Alfyn who helped find me Oscar

through Veredon Whippets (Russ) Liz Third who owns the dog that is dad to Kobi...and lots and lots of others too....

I love this forum but definitely miss how it used to be.....a much more friendly place.

It is a pity that we cannot all just accept that people are individuals and have individual reasons why they were attracted to owning a Whippet (or other sighthound) in the first place. We all share a common bond though and that is our dogs, and it was owning a sighthound that probably led us to finding this forum. There are many knowledgeable people on here who can offer constructive advice on Whippets, be they show/pet/working or racing Whippets.

I was brought up with horses and my main interests were point to pointing, hunting and eventing. I can appreciate the need for correct schooling but could never have imagined myself wanting to compete in pure Dressage, I admire the skill that goes into it though and would never criticise, nor would I condemn someone who owned a horse just to hack about for pleasure. My dogs are pets, they do not compete or work, that is my choice but I do love to look at some of the fabulous photographs posted on here of sporting and working dogs because it shows the diverse capabilities of these dogs. Each to their own, live and let live and K9 could be a happier place....
