Whats The Best Fun Anyones Had With Their Whippet?

I love taking my whippet for a long run on the beach - she is soooo fast and just loves pounding down the sand chasing a frisbee. Even better if there is another whippet for her to play with - yet to see any other dog out run her though!!! (w00t)

I would'nt say this was fun at the time but I can laugh about it now. I was out with the girls, Poppy was only about 3 months old so I thought I would take them to the fields where I used to take Milly. The fields have a brooke running between the fields, when we got there the field to the right had some horses on, I thought its ok they are on the other side behind a fence so I let the girls off. Big mistake, Poppy had'nt seen horses before, I thought oh no here we go, I tried to get her but she jumped the brooke went under the fence and ran straight to the horse barking and running around it. The horse just stood there, I knew it might kick her so I had to get her back, the little bugger totaly ignored me calling her so I tried to jump the brooke and one foot went in. I scrambled up the bank went under the fence and banged my head, by this time I was getting really agitated. I managed to grab Poppy and get a short lead on her, then she was pulling and wriggleing about and the horse started to come near us, I managed to get her back under the fence and then I put my hand on a nettle, then she tried to jump back across the brooke but with the short lead she went in under the water and it pulled me in as well up to my knees. To top it all she shook her self and covered me and Milly in dirty muddy water. So I had a lump on my head and a hand with all nettle stings. I looked at her and thought you little sod. I had to go to my friends for drink of sweet tea. When I got home my wife said " have you had a good walk ". Whippets, do'nt you just love em.

Every day is fun with a houseful of whippets (even if it's the kind of 'fun' John describes :lol: :teehee: ) but for me the best fun is to be had a) on the beach (preferably in the company of friends and their whippets), b) taking them swimming, c) at agility and d) the best of all, taking them lure coursing ... I really don't care about winning, I just love the thrill of watching them tested in the chase and against other whippets and I think, judging by their body language and the expressions on their faces, that they think that's the best fun too.

I love every day with my dogs, but my favourite times are when we go on holiday, usually to the Lake District, Scotland, Wales, Devon or Cornwall. We often take them to the beach and I get such pleasure watching the fun they have running on the beach and in the sea. I think I revert to being a child again. :lol: :lol:
The best is when the beach is empty early in the day - I love seeing their fresh pawprints in the sand. :wub: :wub: :wub:

A particularly enjoyable time Ruby and I had was when we walked the Wolds Way last year. All 79 miles of it, altho' not all in one day
The funniest for me was with my first whippet Lady (she was a small 18"girl).
I was visiting a farmer friend many years ago.
He was a typical man very precious about his food. As a special treat he cooked a huge sirloin roast for us, the remainder to be eaten cold the following day. After lunch the remaining roast was left on the 4ft high kitchen ilsand wrapped in foil to cool (in the middle and well beyond the reach of any whippet). We went out to feed the cattle and came back an hour later. Arriving back my whippet had vanished. I found her curled up in my boyfriends armchair looking like she was due to produce 5 pups any minute.
Somehow my whippet Lady, who was also a guest had managed to reach up 4 feet and across a futher two feet to steal the roast all 4lbs of it. Even the foil had vanished! I was mortified.
He had two Labs. We could have left the roast on the floor in front of them, gone out for hours having told them to leave it and it would have still been there.
I have never figured out how she did it. She was not a jumper and was a very small girl.
It was not funny at the time but it always makes me smile now

eve that made me giggle, facebookers will know, smokey managed to pinch my OH's stake from his plate, while it was on his knee,
he had perfect timeing to swipe it, and looked very pleased with himself,
of course paul wasnt best pleased, but you cant be mad at a whippy that brass necked (w00t)
Scout my litttle whippet was so good at getting the best bed in the house .
If another dog was in the bed she wanted she would get a toy and throw it up in the air and pretend she was having great fun .
When the poor dog came out of the good bed to join in the fun Scout would grab the toy and get in the bed leaving the poor dog wondering what happened ! She did that all her life right up to the end , it always made us laugh (w00t)

I have just remembered another famous 'Lady' incident.
My Uncle who ran a kennels up the road offered to have Lady one weekend when we were going to an all day wedding.
Uncle George was very fond of Camembert. He would keep it for days untill the rest of the family complained. It was then brought out to 'rest' and achieve the prefect temperature. He knew about Lady's theiving ways and was most careful. He covered the cheese with a large ceramic pot while it 'rested'. This saftey contraption was left on the greenhouse window sill (on its own!) for about 5 minutes while Uncle George went to collect the plate of buscuits to go with his cheese from the kitchen. He then sat down in the greenhouse guarding the overturned pot and his buscuits. Fully ready for his mouthwatering Camembert, matured with love for 7 days, he lifted up the pot.
But alas, Lady had somehow got there first. Somehow she had lifted up a 2kg plant pot, stolen the cheese, eaten it and contrived to have all looking in order in the 5 mins George had been away. George never forgave her

Ohhh we always seem to be having fun but the occasion that comes to mind is:
Whilst out for a lovely walk,Oscar,being quite young at the time,was doing what whippets like best and running his socks off....He then changed direction,crashed into back of Oh legs and sent him flying.I am not exaggerating when I say he must have flown six feet into the air and landed with an almighty wallop!
My daughters and I immediatly ran to see if he was ok....... thankfully he was...same can`t be said for my husband!!

went round my dads one night just as he was going lamping with his pair, had my Fathom with me so I asked to tag along, Fathom had never been worked before, anyway dad squeaked a fox up and we let Fathom and Sonny go, to see how proud my fathom was when they killed the fox, and how full of himself he was, the rush and the excitment of it all has had me hooked since
