IVE GOT A GORGEOUS BLACK WHIPPET BITCH AND MY FRIEND HAS A GORGEOUS PUG DOG, WHAT IF WE HAD A LITTER, WHAT WOULD THESE PUPPET PUPPIES LOOK LIKE. I HAVE NO DOUBT THEY WOULD SELL WELL AND GOOD HOMES WOULD BE FOUND AS SMALL CROSSES ARE ALWAYS POPULAR. WE MAY HAVE TO STAND HIM ON SOME ENCYCLOPEDIAS THOUGH FOR THE CONTACT TO BE MADE.

Welcome to K9  You are joking though aren't you ? (w00t)

why????? i dont understand why anyone would want to cross two perfectly nice breeds together....if a breed is defective in some way i could understand trying to improve on it ...but a whippet and a pug!...no!

sorry :(

anyway welcome to k9

Not sure if this is a wind up post or not.

If it isn't...then welcome to K9.

It's not a cross I've seen or heard of before, so can't really help. I think you'll find that people dedicated to their own breed i.e. whippets, don't usually advocate trying out such crosses, unless the result is a useful and known one i.e. certain lurchers breeds.

IS THIS SOME KIND OF SICK JOKE

THERE ENOUGH CROSSES LOOKING FOR HOMES IN RESCUE CENTRES WITHOUT HAVING A DELIBRATE MATING.

WHIPPET WITH A PUG IS SICKENING AND CRUEL

Why two such different breeds?

Having lurchers myself and being a biologist I am all for crossbreds and hybrid vigour etc. But there is no point in performing a cross unless in some way you will be creating a dog that is an improvement on either of the starting breeds for your purpose.

Pugs are great, whippets are great but a cross would utterly defeat the point of both breeds.

You may well want to create a sweet small lap dog, but have you considered what the puppies might look like- they won't necessarily turn out with all the best characteristics, and they will also be very varied- some will have long legs and short noses, some will have short legs and long noses etc.

Please go to your local dog pound before considering this seriously and look at all the unwanted dogs created by this sort of mismatch.

I do hope you are joking.

Pugs have problems having pugs how do you think a whippet will give birth to this broad skulled breed. Sorry not my idea breeding.

Jill

Welcome to K9!

I'm also assuming that was a joke - no reason making more crosses than necessary! I always say that if you divide and multiply by two I have two ordinarly-looking dogs. That doesn't mean I WANT the cross to be made! (w00t)

Pugs and whippets should never go beyond kissing

Welcome to K9 debsandben, I would say please don't breed these 2 together. There are so many unwanted pups in the world, why deliberately breed a litter of crossbred dogs such as these?

I know there is currently all the fuss going on at the moment about crossing Labradors and Poodles (so-called "Labradoodles"), and Beagles and Pugs (so-called "Puggles") and so on, but they are usually bought IMO by gullible people who think they are buying something "special" and consequently paying well over the odds for these puppies.

Breeding a litter is a HUGE responsibility, the resulting puppies are only going to be born as a result of a decision made by a breeder, those little lives are important and breeders need to be very sure of what they are doing, before they do it. Litters should only be bred after the necessary breed health checks have been made (and good results obtained, otherwise no use carrying out health checks). Responsible caring homes need to be sought before going ahead with a mating. etc etc etc.

Please don't do it ... Just enjoy your dogs for their own sake

Aww, cute, cute, cute

I sincerely hope that the suggestion of crossing these two breeds is a joke - for all the reasons already mentioned
