Gap currently have a whippet for rehoming but wondered here if anyone had any experience of a whippet that appears to have a birth deformity. He is going in for x rays tomorrow to check its a deformity as opposed to an old injury that wasnt repaired. The little lad was owner surrendered into a Welsh pound. One of his front legs bends like a banana when he walks but doesnt seem to give him any discomfort and its almost like the bone is made of rubber and flexible.

At the moment he is proving to be a lovely friendly lad if somewhat over sexed :b but we are going to sort that out aswell before he sends himself and the other dogs mad and marking is not the word for the amount of scenting he is doing both inside and out he must be so stressed. Not sure if he has been use to overly aquainting himself with alot of females which I hope he hasnt if it is indeed a deformity to the leg.

Apart from that he is very nervous at the moment and doesnt appear to have been walked as the minute you try to get him to go he clings to your leg like a little koala bear. He is just 20 inches and 9.5kg so really really tiny bless him

awwww poor lad hope he finds a home soon :luck: :luck: :luck:

:( poor lad, though he looks quite a chirpy chap :D

hope he gets a loving home that will appreciate him soon :luck: :luck: :luck:

Heart breaking :( wish I was in a position to help. They can be so uncomplaining and cheerful even with quite severe problems, I hope it is something the vets can help with :( :luck:

What a sweet face he has  - I hope he finds a wonderful home very soon, and the vets find out what's going on with his leg. :luck:

hope he finds a good home.he looks a angel, bless him

please keep us posted Lisa - would be really interested to hear what the vet's opinion is, what's the cause, prognosis and treatment required (if any)

And of course, news of where the wee boy ends up :luck:

Tiny Tim as hes called is looking for a foster home prior to be being homed permananetly... Ive phoned in relation to this poor little lad as i would love to foster him so just waiting for a returned phone call to hear... hes up the vets tomorrow concerning his leg...

Thats great Lisa... i had a whippet from a young child to 18 whom i loved dearly... it was heartbreaking when he departed & could never get another but this fella reminds me so much of my little lad.. I'll talk to Liz later thanks...

Aww isnt he really lovely  would be lovely if someone on K9 got him. :luck: :luck: Hoping for a loving home soon boy. :luck: :huggles:

Holly has a similar, but not as severe bend in her leg. She was also found in a welsh pound.... must have been 10 years ago until she was rescued in a similar way to Tiny Tim.

She has had ortho plates on both legs, and although one is almost normal, one is quite deformed. She does limp obviously, but still enjoys her walks and is a happy old girl. Fingers crossed Tim can have a good quality of life in a loving home.

:luck: To Tiny Tim. I'd be interested to know what the vet thinks - ours thinks it was an injury to both legs rather than a birth deformity.

He looks like racing whippet size , and Holly is the right size for one too. Very odd, hope it is just a co-incidence.

Thanks all will keep you up to date with his progress. As I say he is booked in first thing in the morning to have his conkers removed :sweating: leg checked and a general scrub up in his mouth as its a bit stinky at the moment.

I will fill you all in with the results of the x rays as soon as we get them. Just hope it doesnt put new homes off the little chap because he is going to be a little cracker once he calms down :huggles:

Well the little man is home and no worse the wear for his conker removal

As for the leg well there really are some disgusting people out there. X rays have shown that this little man has had both of the main leg bones broken through the middle, away from the joint but straight the way through. The vet says that it hasnt received any form of professional medical attention and whoever had him just left him with them like that and they have healed over in time  I cant begin to imagine the pain he was in. Now they are healed he thinks the best thing to do is leave them well alone as it isnt giving him any pain just an odd walk and to repair them now would mean re breaking sawing away bone and then pinning.

I just fail to believe how anyone can see this happen to a dog and not do anything to get them medically fixed up its heartbreaking :(

:( Poor little man. I don't know anything about broken bones, but it doesn't sound to me like an accidental break. :(
