Hi, Im new to this forum thing!

Im looking for a whippet pup that will be ready sometime after christmas. I would like a bitch and am not fussed about the colour, although would prefer NOT black.

I am after a good quality pup that i can show. I can assure a fantastic loving home and the new pup will join our dobermann bitch Chloe, who is an absolute sweetie. Chloe use to be showed but unfortunately wasn't really up to it and is now a much loved pet! I have also shown my parents staffie, molly.

It is important that the pup is of good quality. We will not be having more than two dogs, so i am eager to have some fun in the ring with this one!

We live in Shropshire but are prepared to travel for the right pup. I've been searching the net / papers but to no avail.

Many thanks

Jo

welcome to k9 and soon the wonderfull world of whippet showing

all i can say is be very carefull when looking for a pup to show.

i defy anyone to pick "a winner " at 8 weeks old , although some faults are clear from a young age you can never tell how a pup is going to turn out.

id get in touch with a reputable kennel as anyone can say " show potential " in the hope of getting money off you :( at least some of the more well known kennels GENERALLY produce good specimins of the breed as shows in the winning records.

everyone on here are really nice people and if they can recommend people personally then thats your best bet IMHO :b

good luck and piks when you get your baby

very true :( personal recs are a better way, but as other people have said, bitches are hard to find (or not, as my hubby says :D )

have you contacted a local breed club, as these advertise litters? and scrutininse paperwork thoroughly. as you sound like you have experience, i doubt you'd be taken in by phoney peds, but, and i cant remember topic title, there is a company that you can buy 'pedigrees' from, which is undoubtedly used by evil puppy farmers to boost prices for non kc reg pups :(

I want to wait until after christmas, but it'll probably take ages to find a suitable pup anyway!

Im hoping somebody can recommend a litter for me. I know that its hard to find a pup to show. Our chloe has a fantastic pedigree and we paid a lot for her, but then one of her ears started 'flying' and she was no good for showing. She's a fantastic pet, so we're not too bothered, but we are keen to get into showing again.

get out to some shows and start researching the history of the line you like.

the faults as you probably know can be way down the line and hard to breed out.

some lines can be renowned for bad tail set , ear set etc etc

can i ask why after a doby and staffie you want to go into whippets ? whith it being VERY strong numerically.

sorry but i am nosey  well i am a woman (w00t)

god, showing! we're looking to show in the new year, i'm scared witless! as we'll be showing a staffie, do you have any tips?

oooohhhh i cabt wait untill the new year ,, have my crazy baby to take out too

good luck with the staffie showing ,, i bet its soooooo diffrent

We've got one 'live wire' in the house and so want a more laid back, relaxed breed. I did my research and whippets sound perfect for us!

Staffie's are lovely but they don't grow up or be sensible until they're about 6! I recommend regular ringcraft classes as they're strong willed and excitable. Get your dog use to it as soon as you can. Also helps to get them well socialised, so they're not going for the dog next to them!

its the walking i'm dreading :sweating: stands lovely, but EVERYTHING distracts him when on a lead, including the lead  just glad his ears (and no glue, :D )etc are good. just need to find a show  dog world mag is sold out on the same day its brought out, and alot of people are somewhat 'unhelpful' in pointing us in the right direction. funnily enough, these people also have pups up for the same class. is there a connection, i wonder.... :- "

hows yours shaping up?

We did the ear gluing thing with our Dobe, it was messy and didn't work! Also, bandaged her head up at night! Poor thing. We have nothing to show at the moment, that's why we're after the new pup.

We also found that some of the Staffie people were unfriendly and not helpful, very cliquey! Judges seem to be most interested in the head, so if your ok there, it's a start!! Im sure the walking will improve. Try liver cake, it keeps their attention a treat!!

Tired girl, off to bed now!!
