Bailey is now 5 months old and I was wondering when he could be fully grown? I have never owned a whippet puppy before and so many people ask me 'When will he be fully grown?' and I truly don't have a clue :- " I know all puppies grow at their own pace but it would be nice to have a general idea

mine have stopped growing between 8 months and 9 months old,but im sure some go a little longer :thumbsup:

They finish physically growing at around 14 months old ie = growth plates have closed etc ..... but then mentally its a lot longer :lol:

It depends on what do you mean "fully grown". My girls reached their final height by about 8 months and between 7 and 8 months only grew l little bit. But they have not fully developed until much later. Mentally they seem to settle in about 14 to 20 month. Lot depends on when the dog reaches puberty, most of my Whippet girls got their first season at about 14 months, but Callista had her first at 23.5 months. Callista also changed her shape significantly (for the better) between 2,5 - 3years.

Boys would, i suspect develop bit slower.

At least this gives me a guide thank you, so hopefully won't be too long - I am hoping he won't be bigger than Rocky as he is a larger whippet, but we will see, will love him none the less!!! :huggles:

Height wise they are there by 10 months. According to Care of the Racing Greyhound, the last growth plate closes at 59 weeks so I imagine it will be a bit earlier for whippets , being a smaller breed.

I really do not believe that every individual is the same. Closing of the growth plates is somehow connected to reaching puberty and all the hormones surging through the body. Just like getting new teeth, even litter mates, some loose their baby teeth earlier some later. One of my Borzois had a sudden growth spurt at about 2-2.5 years. I always believed they were fully grown by 18 months, and I used to measure him once a months until then. He seemed to be at the same height for a while anyway so I stopped. When he was well over 2 I started having the feeling he is bigger, so i measured him again, and sure enough, he was 3/4inch taller! (w00t)

I agree with that. Most of Albus' development was probably in line with most whippets but I don't believe I saw proper maturity until he was 3. :thumbsup:

After the story I heard of 'U' whippet joining in the fun of shredding, you are probably right. They all have their moments. :thumbsup:
