I think the first meeting was on the 16th May wasn't it Rob?

A lots happened since then. I was told some time ago that there were no plans for 2010.

All this is doing my head! If any one wants (or chooses) to hold the WR Open on its usual date at Easter then I would be most willing to help out in any way that I can.

Yep I'll help out on the day too. Can't help on the 29th for obvious reasons.

Well said June, Julie and Sue

Just to clarify the date for the WCRA 40th Anniversary weekend two-day event was decided by the WCRA committee on 10th May 2008.

This was always intended to be a charity event and the committee obviously went for the bank holiday at the end of May, as the beginning of May is traditionally the Northern open.

These arrangements were recorded in the minutes at this committee meeting.

The committee in attendance were:

M. Nelson K. Saxby J. Keeble

S. Eaton S. Hoddinott M. Etheridge

A. Ingley G.Comber M. Hawkins

Shortly after this committee meeting additional people were contacted to sit on a sub committee to help organise this event.

yes i cant see why we shouldn't run a whippet rescue open as well, but on the Easter Sunday date as usual, as many of us wont run with the wcra due to "that litter" anyway i cant see the clash being a problem ;) maybe worth some thought, no down side to it, this will only benefit the whippet rescue, now surly no-one would object to that

im always willing to help where i can ;)

What a shame the WCRA don't inform us of these decisions on their website. We only have your word for this Garry. Information is sadly lacking on the WC site. I was thrilled when it statted to go on, and bitterly disappointed when it was removed and went "secret squirrel" again.

I hope the WR event will happen at Easter, I am more than willing to help in any way as we have for the past few years. I am really going to miss the Weyhill W/E if it doesn't occur. Can any-one enlighten me if it will?

I think the WCRA have run the Rescue Open in the past.I know the Snowball Open started by Alan Jones alway gave its money to JR Rescue - and I think this was the start of the Rescue Opens.

I know Alan allowed different clubs to host the Open and I know that there was a balance of money which was offered to the club who said they would host the next event - to get things started.
Don't know how many years you are going back Rob, but I have been going to an Andover run Whippet Rescue open for about 10years - a reasonable precident I think.

I would also confirm that NPWRA dates were set long before the WCRA dates were published.

would it not of made more sense to run the wcra event as an extra event for the whippet rescue, and make the WR even more money rather than hijacking the Easter date :(

in fact would Glouc fancy hosting the event this way it would give our Northern friends the opportunity to join in the fun of the day!

Would love to Dawn, but we are constantly threatened with legal action from the breeders if we discuss it 8)

we would definatley go if it was held at gloucester :)

You are correct Lesley, we have been for the last 15 years, and it has been at Leckford, Lugershall, and Weyhill - all Andover area, and not run by the WCRA as far as I'm aware.

Hi June

Glad to see the Whippet Rescue Open had been to 3 locations near Andover, you will have to ask Dave or Carol Brown for the date the event was last held at Newmarket (it was on the bends some time - may have been over 285yards and 8 weight groups), and I think is was held at Harvel (but can't remember where they were running at that time) - or was is Maidstone (Alan Jones was a Maidstone member - and he started the Snowball Open which turned into the JR Whippet Rescue Open. And I think it was at Dosthill one year.

Joyce Keable may have a record of these early events (mid 70s)

Now if I get a chance to get up in the loft - I'll look out the old Programmes

The Whippet Rescue open has been held at Easter for as long as I can remember, and I don't see why it shouldn't still be. The WCRA's disregard for the event is disturbing but not surprising! I say we hold a Whippet Rescue Open anyway, and ignore their petty attempts to ruin anything that is not sanctioned by them :D

;) i agree....and to be honest Jo i would not donate under these circumstances, if the wcra want to take entries/donations away from the whippet rescue then that's down to them :(

at the very 1st nationals Gill and Pam did the racers remembered draw and all the money went to the whippet rescue, this was due to Somerset not running their open and none of us wanted to see the whippet rescue miss out on any money ;)

id be happy to support another whippet rescue open and as always I'm willing to help out, I'm also happy to put in to a raffle/draw that is held at another NPWRA event, and so the proceeds go to WR.....but i wont be donating as it is now due to the spiteful way its been handled
That was very kind of Gill and Pam. However, Whippet Rescue did not miss out because West Somerset didn't run an open, we held a fun dog show earlier in the year, and were able to make a donation then.

what i meant was they usually do that draw at somerset, so the held it at the nationals instead ;)

Just to let you all know, we have had the go ahead for the Whippet Rescue open to be held on Easter Sunday as has been the norm for many years, and it will be run for Whippet News Top Ten points. No venue has been decided as yet, and there are lots of things to organise, but we will let you have details as soon as possible. So the JR Whippet Rescue will not suffer afterall  Keep the Easter weekend free in your diaries :teehee:
