I have had whippets for 17 years and they are the show type whippets . I don't know anything about the racing type whippets and I was wondering if the racing type whippets tended to be bigger or smaller than the show type whippets or are they much about the same size ?

I think Racer's tend to be smaller :)

Someone in the know will be able to tell you

then in's and out's, i tend to get the wrong

end of the stick so dont as a rule answer

questions

Racing whippets have to be 21" and under to run at pedigree clubs and to get their racing passports, there is no minimum size. They run in weight groups.

I run my show whippet, he is 19.5" and I ran a bitch who was 19" and a dog at 21"!

Thank you for your replies . Could anyone tell me what is the lightest weight group ?

Oh something else i dont know

My K has just started lure coursing and she's 21lb she seem's

to be one of the smaller ones at the meetings if that helps any :))

Than you for replying , I was only cuious really as it's something I know nothing about :)

Is there nothing on the racing forums to help you find

out a bit more, that where i would have a snoop

I think it is 16lbs, which to my mind is very small, too light for me!!!!!!! they don't have any substance, I feel they would have no reserves if they picked up a bug as there is nothing of them! I'll get shot no doubt for saying that,

the minimum weight for racing is 14lb maximum is 32lb, dogs must be under 21" and bitch's under 20"

we used to run a 14lb bitch (Parkstone Lucky Charm) game as hell ran with dogs as big as 32lb in club racing without any problems their at no more risk to bugs than any other well looked after dog.

Like Mark my 14 lb-der is as tough as old boots and is very healthy ....... It doesn't matter how big or small a dog is, its how they are bred that determines their health !!!

They might only be small in weight but in there heads there all giants. When my little ones see anything they want there worse than the bigger ones to go and get it. (w00t) usually taking you with them wether you want to go or not.

Hopefully Parkstone lucky charm will make a return to vet racing in 2009 at a grand old age of 8. :huggles:

OMG little libby is all growing up  she looks stunning!!!

I used to have a little one charlies angel she was tiny 16 inches and wieghed between 14 and 16 lbs when racing never had any probs racing at our club against bigger dogs .

Her litter brother who we also owned was was 32lbs and 21 inches it was actually a struggle to keep him at 32 lbs his none racing wieght was more like 38lbs .

Thank you for all your replies , it's really interesting hearing about the racing whippets . My whippets are just pets but when they were all young the fastest one was the smallest one !

I love the pics of your dogs too :)

I raced a little bitch years ago...she was only about 18" a very petite little non pedigree whippet lines ...

My next boy was a Pedigree and was around 19/20" another quite small boy, I didnt race or show him.

The 3 I have now are all dogs from show Pedigree lines...Oscar is a whopping 22 and half inches....Archie his son is about 21 inches now and Kobi is the smallest at about 20". I dont show them but have quite fancied a go at lure coursing
