Whippets & Small Children!!!

Definitely, as long as the small children are reasonably gentle and considerate. Supervision recommended (for the whippets sake!)

Definately as long as there is correct supervision of both the kids and the dogs.

My kids love to snuggle up with the Whippets on their bed, and the dogs are very gentle with the kids. I still have to step in with the youngest from time to time, but I would say a definate yes.

Got our little whippet Chip when my daughter was just two...he was great with her ..best buddies and when my son was born

became his pal too from day one. As others have said supervision is the key...never leave them alone together....

its all about being sensible....and Im sure they will become lifelong buddies. Whippets are really gentle and sensible dogs on the whole, but like any dogs they can also

turn when frightened or hurt.

Depends on the children and just how young they are. I would never leave any dog unsupervised with a small child. My son was badly bitten by a very trusted dog belonging to a friend. I was with them both in the kitchen at the time but my back was turned. My 21/2 year old son shoved a spoon he was holding in the dogs face and it bit him on his face just missing an eye. I do not blame the dog, I blame myself.

I love my whippets, but I would never leave them alone in the company of small children in case they where hurt and retaliated as an automatic defense instinct

I trust my whippets around children of all ages, but as I've said would never leave them together without an adult ... but in my experience exuberant whippets can knock small kids flying 8)

i would think yes they definatly do mix (supervised if young)

Kyle was 2 when we got ruby and star, and zoe would have been coming up for 4 :)

zoes now coming up for 6 wants to do everything for the dogs, feed them, hold there leads, she gets them to sit and smokey does paw.

Alot of my family said young kids and dogs dont mix, but i wouldnt have done it any other way :huggles:

I was brought up with Whippets and my youngest was 3 when we got our first family whippet. I've never had a problem but as others say as long as they don't pester all the time all should be fine. Depending on age young children shouldn't really be left for long periods alone with any dog. My poor puppies will be used to kids and noise (which can't be a bad thing!)

my girls were 1 and 3 when we had our 1st whippet harley (16 years old now )

i grew up with dogs and wanted the same for my girls

didn't have no problems they were never left together

its lovely to watch child and pup grow together

Depends hugely on the children. At the risk of infuriating a lot of people, I think the majority of children these days are spoilt, ill disciplined and can do not wrong. Parents are very quick to blame everyone else for anything that happens to their little darlings which is often caused through their children's bad behaviour and their own negligence because they don't parent effectively. I don't distrust my dogs but I do distrust most children.
