Hi everyone, I have just aquired my first whippet....can anyone give any advice, comments or views on owning a whippet. He is 20 weeks old and comes from good stock

Welcome to K9.  What is your puppy's name, colour, breeding etc? We all like seeing photos of puppies. :huggles:

When my Dolly was a pup (she is now 2) I found using a crate was brilliant for house training and to prevent her chewing the kitchen when I was out. Also she felt safe in there.

If you look on the FAQ part of the form (Frequently Asked Questions) there is a lot of good advice on loads of subjects which may help you.

Good luck with your new whippet. :luck: :luck: You won't regret it. :) :)

Hi and welcome to K9.

The most important thing to tell you is that whippets are addictive and you will have 2 in no time :D

Have you got any photos of your puppy? Is it a show or race bred?

Investing in a good book specifically about whippets is always a good idea, (look on Amazon for some good titles), attend puppy socialization/training classes if u are able, get your pup out and about & off the lead as soon as you can and generally enjoy every minute. Best of luck, Please post some pix!

Welcome to K9   You've made a good choice they are a joy to own  but like Rae says very addictive :D

And yes we need pics please

I've moved you

Well done on getting a whippet. They are horribly addictive. One is never enough. (w00t) I used to have proper dogs who had one collar and lead each, no coats, no crates and no soft furry toys or furry bedding.

I also had never been in a show ring, never gone to a lure coursing meeting, never gone to a race meeting, never gone hill sprinting (I stay at the top), never entered an obedience comp, never done any agility training. I also went on holiday abroad, went to the theatre etc regularly, had nice clothes, a neat hairstyle and I had lots more money.

Hmmmmmmmm (w00t) OMG I've ruined my life. (w00t)

So many people ...so many good comments!!!

I think I might call him Blue, although the only 'blue is on his face. He is mostly fawn with white feet and tip of tail, but has greyish blue markings running through his flanks... some photos to follow.

Congratulations and Welcome to K9. You wont go far wrong with a whippet  Ive only owned whippets, nothing else apart from sharing my mum and dads home with a cocker spaniel at one point, but they are definitely the dogs for me wouldnt have anything else apart from maybe an Iggie. ;)

Ive always kept whippet books in t he house, gt loads of info from K9 and apart from that they are like most other puppies too  naughty at times (w00t)
