You can not have it both way. Meaning every generation of dogs is (should be) a step better. Then why not breeders taking a step forward to new ideas as well?Oh dear the doyennes of the breed will be dissappointed :-I'm well aware that some of the oldies used to judge tail length this way but it doesn't make it right. If the standard says that the tail should reach at least to the hock why not just check it's length the most natural way. Still haven't seen a decent whippet judge pull the tail under the belly yet.Measuring the tail under the hind leg up to the pin bone has always been one way of measuring, plus the down to the hock. Nothing strange about it.It's not done so often now I know, but it used to be some time ago!!!!
