When my husband is a away I do let my pups sleep on my bed with me. I'm sure he knows this as I don't like to fall asleep if I'm alone in the house. What a do recommend is the mattress protector as our dogs are lickers, especially on my husbands side I often would find the fitted sheet and pillow wet if doggy had woken up before me - so please the sales person talked me into getting one! Just incase anyone is thinking about one - http://www.landofbeds.co.uk/protect-a-bed/mattress-protectors/cotton-cool/double

But as I was growing up I would always let my black lab sleep on my bed - I even remember when I had bunk beds, I have the top and our dog had the bottom bunk. They are just another member of the family so why not :D

If your dog licks the bedding so much it's sopping wet I'd save your money on the mattress protector your trying to flog and get a behaviour specialist for dog cos that's neurotic behaviour
