I was reading ZoeG posts about having a pup but no name, some people had put the reasons why they had called there pups certain things, so i thought i would continue the thread here...

So why did you name him / her that?? (w00t)

Tilly was called Missy for a while then we changed it to Tilly  , i have no idea why... :teehee:

Bean got her name as i was traveling back from Paul Corks (breeder) and i looked at her and said she i small like a bean, so bean or beanie it is

The only one we have who fitted into there name was Todd because he was the only pup, and on his Todd. The others just seemed to get a name and that was it. Aggie was easy because she was already named.

Bailey was named when we got him at 8 months and Whizz in named after my sons favourite Rugby player Jason Robinson AKA Billy Whizz

Inga, was named after a New Zealand ALL BLACK rugby player by the name of

Va'aiga Tuigamala, which is re directed from Inga Tuigamala. Aptly named Inga the Winger for his sharp running skills, and tight twists and turns. ( a fantastic player)

Considering my boy is ALL BLACK, and strangely enough has a white mark on his chest that looks very similar to the silver fern that they sport on their rugby shirts. Hence INGA.

lola was called that because of the song..... lola she was a show girl

because that s what she wasmy very first show girl (dog)

and mini was mini decause she was the smallest in her litter  and di her breeder had been calling her that so it sort of stuck

Sienna was already called that by the breeder and we liked it so we kept that, I picked Callie because I liked it, Spry because it means fast and Kane again because I liked it although with forsight it should have started with a P not a K

Tess- I have no idea- it was just about the only name Hugo and I both liked and it really suits her she is small and neat like the name.

Nana- because they are such flirty dogs I called her after a French courtesan in the the book of the same name by Zola

Josephine- I really don't know- Hugo came up with it and we both liked it and it suits her.

Esme (Lynperry Esmeralda Pudding)- I thought she would never get a name- she had been booked for 7 months and I thought about it tons and Hugo didn't like any of the names I came up with (I really wanted Calypso, and if we ever have a completely black one that will be her name)- when we saw her she was exactly the colour of a donkey he had as a child who was called Esmeralda, and the pudding because she was almost spherical and also completely covered in rice pudding as we has interupted her lunch.

Good idea for a thread Kim

Ours have the David Bowie theme, Rebel (Rebel Rebel) Diamond (Diamond Dogs) and Genie (Jean Genie) also a JRT called Duke coz as a pup he was thin and white.

Oh yeah and Stardust Greyhounds!!!

well the four pets we have are

Chilli (the cat) - She Red like a Chilli

Leo (Bichon) - Picked by eldest daughter after she met 2 poodles in Bournemouth called Fluff and Leo

Stirling - He was born in Stirling, Bonnie Scotland

Kai - Scotch for fire and was born in a fire sign

:D

All my pets names have always just been because i like the name. Juley had already given Frankie his name and we liked it and he knew it by the time we had him. I think it's nicer for them to be named for a reason, like everyone has discussed so far. Will keep that in mind for next time.... Incidently, i picked my son's name Conor as it's an irish name and we have an irish surname, and his middle name, Miles, because it's my gran's surname (she was really chuffed)

good thread Kim

I forgot about my cat whos 12 called Churchill so named because when ahe arrived as a kitten we had a dog called Winston :b

Oliver was called Pliers in his litter as they were all named after DIY tools. :teehee: I liked Oliver so Oliver Pliers he became.

Freddie was Socks in rescue - very unoriginal! I knew he was a "tuxedo" greyhound and his fosterer told me that he danced when excited, so I decided to name him after Fred Astaire. He is now Freddie Socks.

Claire came with the name and it stuck because it was both unusual for a dog and it suited her.

Albie - Ian and Vicky Beetles were going through their list of potential names for their D litter and I grabbed Dumbledore before anyone else could! :D Albus Dumbledore was a given after that so he's Beetelian Dumbledore on his KC papers and Albie/Albus/Albus Dumbledore at home.

Logan - I like my animals' names to sound different from one another so I didn't want another "ie" ending. (Albie is technically a "us" ending!) Logan has been a favourite for some time so he ended up being called that. His KC name is Veredon nVincible. :)

I'm a bit sad though cos I'm constantly thinking of names. :b Great thread.

Mine all had their names already, Nua (cat) means free or free spirit in gaelic I believe and Sasha (cat).

Max and Tiny  - well, people think we called them that because one is big and the other is little or that they are realted. But actually they never met until the day we got them so it is pure coincidence! Although we do call them Maximum Dog and Tiniest Pup!

I suspect Tiny got his name because someone saw him and said "Oh, he's tiny" and it stuck - you'd have to ask Wolfhound about that though because she fostered him for 5 months before I had him.

although its slightly off thread..it makes me laugh how people choose grand names for their pets but actually use bizarre affectionate longer versions...for instance i had a lurcher called "annie"....and we used to call her "annie pannie pooper scooper "

and even since yesterday "monty" has become "monty don"

Amber (ESS) because she has amber coloured eyes.

Hero because he is my Hero & my first Whippet

Folly & Gracie so named because of Rupert Brooke's poem "The Funeral Of Youth"

Evie because she was born on Christmas Eve

Aengus (large ginger Cat) Named after W B Yeats poem "The Song Of Wandering Aengus"

Really good thread

All my lot were just because i liked the names and at the time didn't know anyone else with the same names:

Kit (already called that when i got her but think it's a lovely name anyway)

Ella, Gabbi, Zig, Jude (liked the names)

Cara (coz her Dad's OsCAR & Mum's CARrie, so stuck with the Car bit of both thei names)

Did have Leo who got run over last year :( (he was named after my first ever whippet Cleo, his grandma)

When we got our first two kittens 25 years ago we looked for a theme which we could carry through for all our pets. For some strange reason we came up with Beano and Dandy characters. :teehee: So our cats have been Toots, Smudge, Smiffy, Horace & Katie (Keyhole Kate). Then we had our first whippet and for some strange reason called him Joshua and nothing to do with either comic! My husband had wanted to call him Billy Whizz but I wasn't keen, although in retrospect it would have been a good name for a whippet. :D Muffin is actually Raggy Muffin  and we have already lined up our next name - Jonah. Now we just need the puppy to go with it! :- "

We sat for hours thinking of names for Zak, then I looked at him and thought Zak...so that stuck.

The way Mij got his name is kinda a tear jerker. My old Cavalier Charlie died on June 27th at just after twelve in the afternoon. That night my cousin died of a heart attck, his name was Jim. Four days later we got a new Cavalier pup and couldnt think of a name for him, then my mom said we should call him Mij which is Jim backwards.

JD got his name becuase my favoutire drink is Jack Daniels even though I only ever have one drink a year lol.

My cat Murphy got his name because once again we couldn't think of a name. And I was drying my hair and I looked at the name on the side and it said Morphy Richards...then I thought Murphy.

Buttons is names after Cinderellas pal in the panto.

Sam was already named, he came to stay with us for two weeks while my moms work colleague was on holiday. When she came back she never asked for Sam back and when my mom asked her she said she did not want him anymore.

My cockatiel Mac got his name becuase we thought that Mac was a good ole traditional scottish name.

So there it is...how all my animals got their names.

Bandit was called that when we had him but his show name is El Bandito so we think thats why

Owen was named that as at the time Ben was a big fan of Micheal Owen and I wasn't going to call him Micheal

Tegan I don't know why I just liked the name and it was different

Rosie was Rosie from the minute she was born don't know why she just was

Blaze has a big white blaze so that suited him

Toby has the same blaze but couldn't have 2 with the same name so OH decided on Toby

Lastly William he came from N Ireland and is registered as Billy the Kid he was 8 months when we had him and as regullars in the chat room know was originally called Willie no way I was shouting Willie at the park everyone said Billy did not suit him so he became William

 Now its out everyone knows his proper name lol
