I was reading ZoeG posts about having a pup but no name, some people had put the reasons why they had called there pups certain things, so i thought i would continue the thread here...

So why did you name him / her that?? (w00t)

Tilly was called Missy for a while then we changed it to Tilly  , i have no idea why... :teehee:

Bean got her name as i was traveling back from Paul Corks (breeder) and i looked at her and said she i small like a bean, so bean or beanie it is

sorry kim i seem to have turned your very sensible thread into something quite silly.....but i am enjoying it very much!!!!....lol..... o:) ;)

Amber is Agent Spagget or Spanky Spag (w00t)

Hero is Hippy Woo or worse Hipsy :x

Evie is Miss P or Piggy Wiggle

Gracie is Gracie Poo or Poody Doody

Folly is Folly Wheeka :D

Aengus is Aengy or as OH insists on calling him Agnes :(

(w00t) forgot my GSD Beethoven he was called that when we had him and as we thought no one would ever gyess his name if he was stolen it stuck

he is also known as Batty or Nora (Batty)

Batty because he is ever so slightly batty

I'm sure we've had a thread like this before ....

But here goes ... I'm only doing my current dogs

Layla was Layla from the moment she was born. I just said to myself 'she looks like a Layla ' - of course the name is inspired by the Eric Clapton song.

Otto was born in a litter whose show names all were connected with Dave Dobbyn and his song "Slice of Heaven" from the Footrot Flats movie. I actually called him Dobbyn, but he went to a new home and they renamed him Otto. Then I got him back when he was 10 months old.

Dino and Aime were born in the "Love" children litter - all show names were songs with the word love (in any language) in the title. Dino is "That's Amore" and named after Dean (Dino) Martin (of whom I am a huge fan). At first Aime's show name was going to be Je T'aime (hence the Aime spelling of Amy) but then I changed her show name to Chanson d'Amour and her sister Tinker became Je T'aime.

Cash (my black & white Eng. Imp) was so named due to the fact that was the most money I'd ever paid for a dog and also the country singer Johnny Cash was known as "The Man in Black" (add to this our Pat Cash who won Wimbledon) so the name seemed to have lots of benefits.

Reba (the red Sibe) was named after Reba McIntyre - American country singer (very successful) with flaming red hair.

My dogs names, show and pet, are more often than not connected with music. :)

I think Layla is a lovely name  and picked that for Evie but OH didn't think that Evie looked like a Layla, I think it would have been a great name for her cos she Lays a lot, well when she hasn't got a puppy hanging off her ear (w00t)

Maybe one day I will have a layla :- "

Julie

Indi (toy yorkie) was named Indiana Bones by my son as he was the smallest in the litter and bold as brass and a right little dare devil,

Chance was named that as I'd never ever had a sighthound before and my hubby thought I was taking a chance in owning one! (how wrong was he, she's the best dog I've ever had)

and of course there's Parkstone Zachary Binx, as I love the film hocus pocus and Binx is the black cat who's immortal and fearless!! (Binx fearless HA!) (w00t)

Oscar because the whole family liked it and it is hard deciding especially when the kids say ' Oh NO I hate that, I hate this ... I dont want that name.....

and Kobi -- I found on a dog naming site, because we couldnt decide yet again between Tobyand Codie (we loved Gavo's dogs name) so Kobi seemed a mixture of the two so Kobi it was.

My first whippet was Lady - Lady Jane as her racing name. and my next whippet 'Chip' because he was as thin as a Chip and also loved them too.

Oliver was called Pliers in his litter as they were all named after DIY tools. :teehee: I liked Oliver so Oliver Pliers he became.
Freddie was Socks in rescue - very unoriginal! I knew he was a "tuxedo" greyhound and his fosterer told me that he danced when excited, so I decided to name him after Fred Astaire. He is now Freddie Socks.

Claire came with the name and it stuck because it was both unusual for a dog and it suited her.

Albie - Ian and Vicky Beetles were going through their list of potential names for their D litter and I grabbed Dumbledore before anyone else could! :D Albus Dumbledore was a given after that so he's Beetelian Dumbledore on his KC papers and Albie/Albus/Albus Dumbledore at home.

Logan - I like my animals' names to sound different from one another so I didn't want another "ie" ending. (Albie is technically a "us" ending!) Logan has been a favourite for some time so he ended up being called that. His KC name is Veredon nVincible. :)

I'm a bit sad though cos I'm constantly thinking of names. :b Great thread.

although its slightly off thread..it makes me laugh how people choose grand names for their pets but actually use bizarre affectionate longer versions...for instance i had a lurcher called "annie"....and we used to call her "annie pannie pooper scooper "

and even since yesterday "monty" has become "monty don"

i agree, they are affectionate names. I have loads of differnet names that i have made up, you would think im a loony if i told you. But they mean something to me, and them.

watch out for the new thread, i may not me on my own, or am i??

ELI just seemed like a good old fashioned northern name for a whippet...we lived in Tunbridge Wells at the time, and it went with the flat cap that all our lovely southern friends seemed to think OH would be wearing now that we had a whippet!

He also answers to Him & Himmy...not sure how that came about

WILLIAM was the only name we could all agree on (I wanted Wilf!), but as we all love the Just William stories it seemed spot on, so of course it gets extended to William Brown...can't imagine him being called anything else now as he's every bit as naughty as his namesake :p

My little rescue bitch PIPER (waiting at the bridge now :( ) arrived ready named, she'd got used to it and we thought it suited her, of course it frequently got shortened to 'Pipes', occasionally she was Ballerina Girl cos she always stood with her little front feet in First Position

THE WENDY LADY....came from Cats Protection as Wendolin  , so immediately became Wendy, but always, always, always referred to as The Wendy Lady (Peter Pan) except by my Dad who insists on calling her 'Wednesday' :clown:

Both horses kept the names they came with, ROMA & BLUE, neither of which I liked but no one would let me change them despite the fact that they're the wrong way round gender wise!

Roma became Roma-Pony from the beginning, but very often referred to as PONYBOY, which is how I come to be PONYGIRL(yeah, thanks OH!) My son for some reason always calls him Tony-Pony

Blue becomes Boo-Boo, unless she's naughty, then it's usually Cow-Bag :D

My Mum fails at every attempt to get anyone's name right (I'll be like her one day :- " ) so for a long time she went about telling people I had a whippet called LEVI (w00t) , Roma is usually 'Romeo' or on days when she's not even trying, just 'Horsey' :p

Oh dear, just looked at my post, I seem to have written an essay, sorry! :b

mabel is called mabel because she was such a pretty pup and still is, Blue is blue coz he is blue and i always said if i ever got an ig it would be blue and called blue! bit sad i know but hey!!! Betsy the ebtx was called that for betsy bull coz she looked like a cow! Lady is lady coz even as a small pup she was a little lady (mabels sister, one of my dads whips) pride and joy are that coz they are my dads pride and joy. We all have our funny reasons for names dont we ? i admit mine are boring but they mean things to me

Buffy was a year old when I got her, and being a huge Buffy the Vampire slayer fan, it stuck,
I just knew you were a BTVS fan!!

My old GSD was called Hazel and she got called Hazie Wazey Pudding and Pie Kissed the BOys adn Made Them Cry! (Don't ask me why!!) (w00t) and various derivatives of that eg Hazey Wazey. Also Squizzel because her tail look like a suirrels tail and she chased squirrels.

Nua gets called Nuke the Puke cos she gets furballs.

Sasha gets called Sasha Basha cos she walks into stuff and falls off fences etc.

Max is Maximum Dog, Max Dog, Max in a Million (like Maxamillian)

Tiny (where do I begin) gets called Tiny Pup, Tinester, Tiny Man, Poo Head (cos he eats poo), Devil Dog, The Dark Destroyer (cos he chews anything and everything), Baby Boy, Mummies Little Baby etc! (w00t)

Also, has anyone read Terry Pratchett's Thud? You know the story "Where's My Cow?"

We play a derivative of that called "Where's My Baby?" which goes "Where's my baby? Is this my baby? (Squeak a toy) It goes 'squeak', that's not my baby, it's a duck (or whatever toy it is).

Where's my baby? Is that my baby? It goes rustle (rustle paper), that's not my baby, it's some paper.

(Plus any others you want)

Where's my baby? Is that my baby? It goes woof, that's my baby. (Give Tiny a big cuddle)

Tiny goes mad for this game, he thinks it's great (w00t) and jumps around and squeaks the toys like I did. Max isn't so keen!

Okay, now you know I'm nuts!! :teehee:

We got Dolly when she was 10 months and already had her name but her show name is Nemahelvic Trolley Dolly, so Dolly it is!! It really suits her aswell as she is really petite like a little doll!!

I forgot some!! :- "

Max also gets called Mad Ear Max (like Mad Eye Moody in Harry Potter) cos one of his ears is damaged and always sticks up funny.

There is also a toad who visits the garden called Neville (also Harry Potter) and a wood pigeon called Chumleigh Marjoribanks after a squirrel in Agatha Christie's The Hollow!

(Actually there are 7 wood pigeons but only one is named because he got hit by a car and landed in our garden. We had him patched up and he has stayed ever since.)

My Dolly's KC name is Selinko Spanish Doll, so Dolly seemed just right for her. She is also quite dainty, apart from when she is devouring poo!! Sometimes we call her Dolly Dribble (that name started when she was first in season   ).

Bobby (Collie X) came to us as a tiny puppy (I fostered him) and he had four white socks - reminded me of bobbie socks so Bobby is was. Sometimes we call him Bobby Socks, and also Bobby Dazzler or Bobby Dazz.
