Why when your trying to keep a dog at his racing weight does the little git go and steal a box of chocolates. He got through 3/4 of a box of Roses and I only just stopped him getting the biscuits. Having healthy food in the house is no good he just loves fruit especially grapes and strawberries. Taking him for a walk is muder as anything small and furry is fair game and I'm sick of retrieving dead squirrels before he swallows them tail and all. Is having a whippet really a good idea? I'm sure it isn't good for your health! Good job I love him to bits.

info.....

CHOCOLATE:

There has been a lot of articles in the news about the lethal effects of chocolate recently and here’s why! Chocolate contains theobromine. Theobromine is a similar compound to caffeine and stimulates the heart and nervous system. In dogs it can poison them with death occurring from heart failure. .

Plain and dark chocolate contains more theobromine and therefore is more dangerous than milk chocolate if your dog ingests it. Theobromine stays in the dogs system for a long time, this means that chocolate poisoning can even occur if small amounts of chocolate are fed repeatedly.

Also remember that cocoa powder, baking chocolate and other foods contain theobromine. In the November 2003 Issue of Dogs Today they also pointed out that Cocoa mulch (sold in garden centres) smells delicious to dogs but is highly toxic.

Dog chocolate has had the theobromine removed.

RAISINS AND GRAPES:

There was recently published information stating the toxicity of raisins and grapes in dogs . Eating just a handful of raisins and grapes has been shown to cause kidney failure. They do not know why as yet but it might be due to a pesticide sprayed on the grapes or perhaps a type of mould found on the skin of grapes and raisins.

With this dog everything comes out the other end very quickly :x Anyway he deserves belly ache :- " no one told him food is dangerous, either that or he has a death wish. He's asleep now no worse for his scrounging. The bin by the back door has to be raided everyday or it's a waste of time getting out of bed. (w00t)

how do you stop them eating fruit you grow in the garden. He managed to raid the strawberry patch and stripped the goosebery bush. he dislikes rhubarb mind but loves black and redcurrants. He picks his own blackberries as does his mother and sister and Apple cores are to die for, you cant throw them away or they sit and sulk. :( I don't think they believe they are dogs i think they believe they are human.

i couldnt (w00t) so i had gates fitted so they can only go in certain areas supervised :teehee:

He has no respect for fencing and gates bless him. We started with a 3 foot fence to stop him going next door . that lasted 2 weeks. off he went over the top to eat bread put out for the birds. :- " So we put up some chicken netting adding another 3 feet. lasted 2weeks and off he went out for the bird food and then out to hoover the streets. now he's only allowed out under adult supervision. He still looks. (w00t)
