I just wanted you all to know that our dear Willow, whom we adopted in October , from this board, has had to be pts this morning. He was not eating and worrying at his 'bad' eye (he was blind but one eye was a bit swollen) and due to see the vet today anyway.
At about 5 am , my friend heard a noise from him - and he never normally made any noise at all- and found him collapsed with loads of frothy, bloodstained fluid around him.
She rang me (I live 20 feet away, next door!) and when I got there, he was pacing in circles, kept collapsing and was totally disoriented and confused and in pain. I was able to get a painkiller and some valium down him and he eventually calmed and even slept for a while, and drank a whole bowl of water on waking.
By the time we got him to the vets, he was bringing up blood again and very confused and frightened, so, as he was about 14, in pain and severe distress, we did the only thing we could for him.
Unfortunately it was a locum vet who wasn't awfully sympathetic, but she did give him sedation when I made it clear we wanted him given something NOW. She then agreed that at his age, it was not going to help to put him through a load of frightening tests, and put him to sleep. He died in my arms, with Bea also holding him, and his constant companion, little Lily beside him. She 'kissed' him goodbye and seemed to know he wasn't coming home.
Here are just a couple of pictures of him.
RIP dear little Willow.
