Oh how stupid (and guilty) do I feel!!

When I got Archie home today I frontlined him straight away. Then he and Willow played away happily for some time. (And i'm usually so careful with the Guide Dogs that we have staying here etc!!! )

Later on I noticed that her stomach was swollen and a little more "solid" than usual. She threw up a few times.......

I got worried incase it was bloat (not linking the frontline to it all at this stage!).

So we brought her into the vets. They gave her injections for the vomiting and some liquid parafin for me to give her to help get things moving (she hasn't "been" today yet).

It wasn't till someone else pointed out to me that it could be the frontline that I realised, how dim of me to not put two and two together!

She's in her crate feeling sorry for herself now. Tried to be sick after the vets, but nothing came up. She's gettingstarved for 24hrs then on to boiled rice after that to we see how she goes.

Bless her. Trust me to do something so easily avoidable during this vital time with the new arrival.

As for him, he's happily chewing on a big bone in his bed, going for the occasional pee up against my bin in the kitchen. :- "

Just wanted to post this to highlight to anyother multiple dog owners to be careful when using flea treatments that they are well dried before the other dogs get a chance to lick at it and end up ill like my poor Wills. :(

Poor Willow, hope she is feeling better soon :)

Oh no, poor Willow :( Hope she's feeling better soon :luck:

I must admit it's never occurred to me that a dog might lick Frontline off another - I'll certainly be very careful of this in future.

I think you need to tell the vet that it might be due to frontline. He may need to take a certain course of action.

Hope Willow is soon on the mend. :huggles:

Don't blame yourself, you was'nt to know and tbh I have never given it a second thought in the past when I've treated my two. The dose stays quite greasy on their necks for a day or two afterwards, so thinking about it, it's most likely to get rubbed or licked from the other dog but it never occured to me that it could be this dangerous.

Thanks for posting, I'll now be more aware too.

Yes I contacted the vet once I twigged on to what had been the cause. She said to just follow her advice as given earlier and Willow should be fine. What a relief. Poor baby is lying in her crate looking sorry for herself.

I feel so bad since this was easily avoidable, but at least I know she is gonna be ok. Could have been way worse if it was bloat.

Thanks for the well wishes by the way!!! :)

poor willow :( im sure she will be fine soon :huggles:

thanks for the warning as i agree i never think either will be more vigilant next time :luck:

Glad Willow is feeling better. :luck:

Yes you can see the frontline after treatment, and I worry when dosing my two in case one licks the others off. (w00t)

She seems much better this morning, no longer wretching. We went out for a 10min on lead walk this morning and she enjoyed getting out.

Thanks goodness! :)

I was under the impression, according to the packet instructions that to link Frontline off another treated dog would only cause them to salivate more.

That's what I had thought previously as well. Perhaps Willow is more sensitive to it thatn other dogs? I can see no other reason for her to take ill like she did so quickly and the vet seemed to agree that it could have been the cause of her symptoms.

Aaaw! :huggles: to Willow. Glad to hear she is on the mend.
