Hi Guys,

After an uncomfortable few days Willow has got her drains taken out from where her leg was amputated.

Theywere originally to be removed on Saturday along with the stitches, but since fluid was still draining, we decided to leave it till Monday morning, but again the vet decided to out it off till Thursday(2 weeks post op). But Monday evening and this morning she was in real pain with it all so I brought her in for the drains to be removed today. She's been sleeping off the sedative most of this evening.

We will just have to see how comfortable she is tomorrow.

The vet stitched up where the top drain was and left the bottom one open since it was so clean and small. This way some fluid shall still be able to drain if needed. They were pleased with how well the drain sites looked and how clean they were. they said it was rare to see ones so good after that length of time. :b

So, if all goes well, we just have to go back in one weeks time to have the top stitches removes and that will be us......

Fingers crossed.

She looks much better with out the drains in. I just hope she is more comfortable for having them removed.

:luck: Willow

Our Holly had drains recently - I put Aloe Vera Gelly on the sites and they healed up brilliantly. She was happier with them out, but once but she did get a build up of fluid on her back (one of the sites), it was easily drained off with a syringe.

Big hugs for Willow, I'm sure she'll feel much more comfortable now the drains are out.

Thanks Guys. She wasn't very happy this morning and only ate a small amount of breakfast.

She was grand walking the kids to school, but when she got home again she just lay down looking depressed.

I popped out for an hour this morning and when I came home she was lying stretched out on the side the leg is gone and was reluctant to get up. With some encouragement she managed it. Now she is happily chewing on a bone I brought back from the butchers.

Not sure what to make of it. I do wonder if she is having phantom pains perhaps.

Glad to hear she is healing well. maybe she is a bit depressed. So much has happened to her in such a short time. I bet in a few months time she will have adjusted completely and be living life to the full. Very best of luck with her, she sounds a real sweatheart. :luck: :huggles:
