Hi Guys,

Willow's operation has gone fairly well. The vet says she could be home tomorrow or the following day.

They said they repositioned the broken bone, that it isn't 100% perfect, but as good as they could get it. There was a lot of granulation (scar tissue) around the broken ends of the bone where it didn't heal properly before. They hope that this time round it will heal and fuse together properly. (This is where my doubts for this op have lay.) All that we can do now is wait and see how it heals. Time will tell.

I'm hoping to get Willlow some Symphytum, a homeopathic treatment that helps with bone injuries and encourages healing. Hopefully it will be of some help.

For now she is recovering at the vet's and on painkillers.

Thank you all for your well wishes, they are much appreciated.

sending healing thoughts to little willow. :huggles: i do hope its successful and worth it all.i suppose its one of theose things that only time will tell.i wish there were more folk like you in the world who give their dogs every chance of a happy healthy life.may god bless you. :huggles: :luck:

ah, bless her :huggles: get well soon :luck:

Good for you Evie for giving it a go! :luck: to you and :huggles: to Willow, I am sure it will heal much better now with proper fixation, even if the leg is not quite straight once it is healed it will be much better than only having three!

Symphytum is wonderful stuff, I used it when Frankie had an open fracture on his front leg. He was plated and I had him back sound and winning in the ring within 5 weeks of the repair!!

Hope she does very well with this repair, and well done to you for taking Willow on  It is not a job for the fainthearted to take on a rescue dog with a number of problems, but certainly her youth is on her side and I'm sure she will make a wonderful companion once she is able to get on the move and start enjoying her puppyhood again. :luck:  :luck:

Yes I think it was definitely worth giving this a shot and I dearly hope it is as successful as possible  :luck: :luck:

Yep definitely use Symphytum - good old 'knit bone' works wonders!

Hope all goes well :luck: :luck: Good luck to Willow :luck: :huggles:

Good luck. :luck: You deserve a medal for all that you are doing.

Hope all goes well, and your kindness is rewarded by a full recovery. If it doesn't work, well, at least you tried. :huggles:

Willow is home!

The vet said they were all amazed at how she came round after the op and just got on with things like nothing had happened her. They all seem to dote on her in there.

She is on painkillers, anti- inflamitories and anti-biotics. The leg is swollen alittle, but that is to be expected. I'm to clean the wounds with hibiscrub a few times daily. She is due back at the weekend to get the neutering stitches out, then next week for a check up for the leg.

Now, she is lying in her bed, actually looking remarkably comfortable. Though we have the odd groan when the kids are too noisy.

Here are some pics. I thought they might help for anyone whose own dog has to go through a similar op.

Poorly leg.
