We have been thinking to change our carpet and get a wooden floor for some time. Now with our new puppy, the "accidents" and the dirt from outdoors we think that it might be the best time. Do you think Frida would find the floor too slippery? Do you have any experience with wooden floors and whippets? What do they prefer?

We have a wooden floor in our living room (but with a big rug) and Blue has never had any problems with it. He's well past the puppy stage now though so doesn't do the wall of death round the room any more!

I have given up trying to live with dogs and carpets. Downstairs is tiled the whole way through and upstairs has wood-effect lino - all easily bushed and washed with a mop and disinfectant or bleach! I used to have dark green and navy blue carpets - bad idea with white dogs

i have to confess in my dining room we have wood effect lino... looks like laminate but is actually lino.

Woody is going senile and he pees on the floor sometimes cos he thinks he's been let outside, also with a pup due in a couple of months its so much easier to keep clean and to my kind carpet even if cleaned regularly never ever loses the pee smell once it's had a few accidents on it.

our bedroom floor is just floorboards and we'd never have a carpet in there now.....since having so many dogs i'm a real convert to any flooring thats washable or wipeable. :b

we changed all our downstairs to wood flooring so much cleaner than carpets especially with 7 dogs

we had a red carpet in the living room what a nightmare (w00t) we have now got wood flooring so much easier

the dogs have got used to it now .we allso have wood flooring in the hall way which has been down a long time

but we do have a runner by the back door for when they run in from the garden so they don,t slide to the other end :lol:

another for the 'easy mop' camp here. I havent found a way of cleaning carpets which satisfies me that accidents are real gone I much prefer to be able to sweep and mop.

I do have rugs though as they can be sent away to clean

I have just changed upstairs from carpet to wood effect laminate and the dogs don't mind it one little bit :thumbsup:

I now know when they are around ......... clicky claws :lol:

Ripping up any carpets is the first thing I do when buying a house. My dogs are used to hard floors, pups grow up on them. I just had the wooden floors resurfaced with the most hardwearing glossy stuff and it is also non-slip; my rugs stay in their place.

Could not imagine living with dogs and floors that cannot be washed on daily basis.

I would never have carpet ever again even if i didn't have any dogs, i think laminated flooring is the best thing since sliced bread :thumbsup:

I have it in every room of my house and real wood flooring in my hallway.

My dogs have all grown up on it, even my large lurcher is ok with it and he is 27 inchs tall.

It's so much cleaner, i hoover up and mop the floors everday don't take me long and best of all is when you have visitors come in they say they can't beleive it doesn't smell of dogs )

So defo get youself laminated flooring :thumbsup:

i had wood flooring put at the new year :thumbsup: i love it, the dogs are fine with it now....but the first day it was a bit like "Bambi on Ice" (w00t) :lol:

id never go back to carpet now

Just sitting here thinking about it now, about 7 years ago i went to Hersham retired greyhound rescue as i really wanted a greyhound had a home viist and they turned me down because of the laminated flooring in my house they said i would have to put carpet down everywhere. I was really upset at the time but strange how things happen because a couple of months later my son turns up with a little bundle in his arms it was'nt a full greyhound he was a greyhound/saluki and that was good enough for me, funny how things turn out maybe it was meant to be

We have wood down stairs, but carpet up stairs. Yes the brakes dont work too well on the wooden floor, but my boys have adaped to this. I still have big rugs though,,they use them to lunge on the sofa, to see out the window., I would not go back to carpet,,the floor is easy to clean now, the down side ,yes my dogs still hit the door,,less often now,,maybe about once every 6 months . Ive had wooden floors for about 5 yrs now.

we have tiles down stairs and laminate upstairs with rugs were needed would not go back to carpets for anything

non of my whippets have a problem with our hard floors we have tiles downstares and pated floorboards upstares when you see the buck you clean up every day the thought of carpets makes you sqirm knowing it would all be in there. a couple of my greyhounds do have some problems with the floors i get the cheep couple of pound ikea round mats and put them down you can get loads of colours to match your room there rubber backed so dont slip and they wash and dry realy easy i can do 4 in one load easly in my machine. dogs seam fine aslong as they can see the next mat
