Can anyone please let me know if Orijen is any good or is it overrated? is there anything better ? some of the recent reviews I have read are less than favourable! Granted not many but enough for me to take notice. Frankie is fed on hills atm with some wet mixed in but thinking of changing when its finished. Thank you.
 
Its rated 5/5. i haven't tried it but my friend who has a border terroir feeds Orijen. she has recommended it to me! she really likes it but every dog is different.
 
Orijen and Acana are supposed to be a couple of the best foods. Personally, I feel there are plenty of good options for much less money.
 
Orijen is an excellent food but its high meat content makes it a little rich for some dogs.

It is an independent dog food comparison website which scores all types of foods (dry, raw, wet) on a scale of 0 to 5. You can set filters for your dog's weight, age etc and choose to view only the foods scoring, say, 4 and above. Then you can show them listed according to daily feeding cost so you can see what gives you best value for money.
 
I fed Orijen for a while, and the main drawback for me (apart from it not suiting Jasper's digestion, but that applied to every kibble known to man) was that it's quite concentrated so you don't have to feed so much (which means it's not as expensive as it appears) - and Jasper was convinced he was being starved.
 
Being a raw feeder I will always suggest the raw product as a first option. It is easy to introduce and with no tummy upsets. It is natural and easy for the puppies to digest.
Kibbles; There are lot's of good makes these days. Orijen is good but very concentrated, so only small amounts need to be used. If you have to use a kibble, look for a "Grain Free" this includes NO rice.
 
Thank you all for the help and suggestions:) I've looked on the suggested website and the best ones listelil were; Millies Wolfheart , Barking head, canagan, ziwipeak, orijen and acana.

He is on hills (from the vets) and lily's Kitchen puppy. I wish it wasn't such a minefield:eek:

Coincidentally I have ordered some raw premix to see how it goes. He has the odd bit of raw/cooked meat.
 
Try to keep whatever raw you give him uncooked. Cooking is known to alter the values
of the raw meat product.
Don't worry about puppy or adult, it is mostly just the kibble size that makes the difference.
Raw fed puppies and adults eat the same mixes, it is just the amounts that is the different.
I have used both Millies Wolfheart and Acana with puppies (only small amounts) with no problems.

actually puppy food has more fat and calories than adult because its to 'build up' the puppies and help them grow.

sorry i didn't do it to offend you i was just correcting what 'you' said! actually i was giving valuable information to @FrankieDoodle because if a dog has puppy food it's not a balanced diet and can lead to obesity. Also some puppy food kibble can be quite big and some adult food can be quite small.
 
I think there is one thing we all have in common - A love for our canine companions and wanting what's best for them.Even though might notnagree on something I really don't think there's a right or wrong way. We just have to do what we feel is personally best for us and our dogs. Thank you again everyone :) WWil either be MWH, Orijen or AcanaA

Was recommended Barking Heads puppy. For future puppy arrival Has anyone else used this ?

Barking heads is a decent food but remember that to begin with you need to keep your puppy on the same food as he or she was on at the breeder. If you choose to change I would wait a few weeks to let your puppy get over the major change to his life, then change the food gradually, maybe at 10% a day stages.
