Persian Saluki vs. English Whippet lure course race

Beautiful...:)

Jasper sometimes runs with whippets. He can beat them easily in a straight line, but then they turn on a sixpence and he's got the braking distance and turning circle of the Ark Royal:D

really wow!
Yes, NOFCA states that the usual winners are Greyhounds, Salukis and Beezers(Ibizan Hounds). Ibizan Hounds more agile than Salukis, slower than Greyhounds but less stamina than a Saluki. These are the top coursers here in the USA. Irish Wolfhounds do poor because they are great on only LARGE game and struggle with lagamorphs. Most meets are around hare and not DEER or Pronghorn Antelope which may favor I. Wolfhounds. But more Greyhounds and Salukis are entered into stakes pulling the odds in their favor.

There are some dogs which perform and are fast enough to challenge Greyhounds such as the Magyar Agar! These dogs are QUICK but a rare coursing breed. Some dogs are disgustingly poor such as the Chart Polski which is unheard of when it comes to winning coursing competitions. It is the worst coursing hound I've seen.

that may be true - but tell me, how many Greyhounds, Beezers, Whippets, or Salukis serve as police-k9s? :D

they may stink at chasing plastic-bags on wire loops, but a friend had a C.P. that brought home dinner regularly, in the form of rabbit for the pot, & his dog also killed a weasel trying to get into their henhouse - nor could U casually brush by his dog to approach the house, if no one was at home.
He'd nail yer butt.

I appreciate a beautiful dog running all-out, but if pretty is as pretty does, i'd take a C.P. over a champion courser.

But that's a poor excuse. German Shepherds run faster than most sighthounds and the Belgian Malinoi is reputably fast and as a POLICE dog is FAR better a runner than the Chart Polski. Belgian Malinois 40 miles an hour after a criminals and Chart Polskis catch rabbits that 6 month old lurchers can catch? v=HmFN1AL4BhEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmFN1AL4BhE

I wouldn't take a Maligator as a gift, not if s/he was presented to me on a sterling-silver platter that weighed as much as the dog.
[I'd take the platter, & leave the dog. :D Or, if taking the dog was the price of getting the platter as a gift, no deal. ]

They're hot to trot, mouthy, often manic, & inclined to OCD behaviors & anxiety; they're worse nuisance-barkers than GSDs, & that's saying something.

In my opinion, and being truthful can't be bothered checking on the internet, but no way are any non sight hounds faster than sight hounds. ok quite a lot have more stamina hence over distance will be in front. Going off that you could say sledge dogs are the fastest in that, (in cool or cold conditions), they can out run any other breed type by simply running a lot farther. I stick to a Whippet accelerates faster than any other but is a short distance sprinter. Greyhounds are the fastest in top speed but by half mile are just about reaching their limit. In dogs as in general their is a trade off between acceleration, top speed and stamina.

Huh? Again, that contradicts pretty much everything I can find on the internet.
You have to know the field or else you won't know anymore than what you know which is only how to question facts.

these 2 photos explain brilliantly why i wouldn't want a Maligator -

... the 2nd in particular - "Why the H*** would i want a sleeve? I'll climb his back, & nail his shoulder!"
The target doesn't appear thrilled at the prospect.
