We set off at about 6pm as we decided to stay over in a dog friendly pub called the Prince of Orange in Kent, due to delays in Dover. Before we set off, we made sure we packed everything. When we booked the rooms (2) they looked okay and cheap but cheerful. We went over the Queen Elizabeth Bridge and then went down some housing estates, the area looked okay until we were down the road and saw bright blue, red and green aluminous lights outside as it was 10:45pm. So we as a family decided that it was going to be okay and it was only a place to rest so we had an hour’s drive to the ferry port. So we were greeted outside by one of the men, he was helpful and showed us to our rooms. All our faces dropped, it was bloody awful, and below my room was a disco at the bar. The beds looked dirty and there was a communal bathroom witch was not clean. But saying that I thought the staff were nice. Probably wouldn’t recommend it, but it served its purpose.

We got up about 4am, to leave for 5am. The dog went out in the gated off side entrance and did their business. Got in the jam-packed car and drove 1 hour 10mins to Dover Port. Our ferry wasn’t supposed to depart until 9.25am, but we had got flexi tickets so was able to get on the ferry at 8.25am. When we got on the ferry, the crew were nice, but the down side to P&O ferries is that pets have to stay in the car. (Unless is an assistance dog or the car deck is over 25 degrees.) We had booked the club lounge, and you get complementary drinks, and they have a fabulous food menu (inc. scrambled egg with smoked salmon.) Very nice indeed. We have driven for about 7 hours today and we have settled into an accommodation called Garden and City in Lyon (France). It is really nice and cute I will make a review on it when I’m back in the UK. The dogs have been brilliant in the car today, we even met a French Miniature Schnauzer called Sammy :). Will post some pictures during the holiday.

Glad it’s going well so far! I did have a chuckle at you writing ‘bloody awful’ :D

:emoji_dog2:Both dogs are up ready for a 10 +2 hour drive this will be fun! :)

I dont mind driving in France so many of the unmanned rest stops along the way where you can let a dog get some air..
That pub /hotel sounds like my idea of hell.!

Yuck to the hotel. Being dog friendly is no reason not to have high standards of cleanliness!

Have fun on your trip

Thanks @Caro Perry :)

At 7:15 am we woke up and got ready for the 10 +2hour drive, it took us until 10 am to get ready :). The dogs were great in the accommodation but had to be on leads in the garden as they are not gated off. We set off and we had our first stop about 2 hours in so we all can stretch our legs and the dogs can get fed and watered. I decided to test the 5 second rule for the dog’s paws, so in the shaded areas and grass it was only warm but in the blaring sun the floor was burning. So the dogs didn’t really want to walk except on the grass which was fine but there was so many bugs in the grass and I was a little nervous of the dogs stepping on top of something. But when I typed this we had about 2 hours left on the road until we get to the villa, we are near Valencia. I cannot wait until we get there because we need a break/relax :), will speak when we get WIFI as the villa does not have WIFI. Hope everyone is well and have a great August! :)

Doris POV- woof, e ave hottenn oo a pwace hat mells honey, it cis otter er. Translated: woof, we have gotten to a place that smells funny, it is hotter here.

31st July 2018

Today we have had a chilled out day, unpacking and getting the dogs settled in. Today some of us went down to the pool, Olive and Doris joined us. Olive avoided the pool but Doris loves water and was very keen to get in but we want to take it steady so I allowed her on the li-lo with me at first she was fine but after a while she got a little bit nervous. I will film it when she first goes in and then post it on this thread. The dogs have been really good for us and they are coping with the heat really well. In the dogs water we have added Sulphur rock into their water to gain the nutrientes that they lose in from the sun back into their bodies. Olive was sick this morning but she hadn’t eaten and also seemed a bit tiered after the drive last night, we got here at 10:30pm. The drive was very long.

If anyone replies to this thread I will reply as and when I can :)

1st August 2018

Today we have been around the pool and chilling out. The dogs are coping with the heat immensely well, so glad we now have air-con. I have been trying to find out what beaches in the area allow dogs as I know both dogs love the sea! Doris, with a bit of encouragement for the first time went in the pool today, she loved it and I did film it but I will post it when I get chance too. Tonight we are going to an Indian restaurant that allow dogs outside so the dogs will be joining us. Hope everyone and your dogs are behaving! Any ways what are you all doing this month? :)

I've heard that it's meant to reach 48 degrees in Spain this weekend :eek:

No holidays for me this month but off to France in September :)

Cahors is lovely. Did you know the bridge there is missing one brick because the architect was plagued with delays and building troubles and sold his soul to the devil to speed up the work; the sale to be honoured when the bridge was completed. So to this day it remains incomplete. Nearby you have some amazing places to visit - you may know the area but if not I could make some lovely recommendations.

Ah, no I didn’t! But I shall pinch your story and impress our friends with it ;)
No we don’t know the area very well so any hotspots would be great!

3rd August 2018

Today has been so relaxed we have just been relaxing, drinking and also sleeping! It’s been really hot and we are expected to have 26.c tonight. Tonight we are going to a Chinese restaurant, but currently have not had anything Spanish :). Even on Sunday we are going for a carvery! The dogs have sulphur rock in their water bowls, and I think Doris keeps eating it as I look in the bowl one minute and the next it is gone; the pieces are walnut sized is this harmful? We are here in Spain for another month! We will be going to Benidorm soon, but the downfall is that there is so many pet shops that sell dogs and puppies :(. But you hope they all go to responsible good owners. A few years ago we walked past a shop and saw a French bulldog, we did fall in love but we only had 2 weeks left in Spain at the time so it wouldn’t have been able to come back with us, also as you don’t see them with their mums how do we know it’s not a scam? Doris went in the pool for 5 minutes and its equivalent to 30 minutes walking (please correct me if I’m wrong).
