so when we was on lockdown since March time what’s been yours drink buddy? I’ve been bored with drink over the last 10 years I.e. lager, bitter, ales, so been into whisky the last 7 years, only drink the good stuff, I take it fairly serious, you know the right glass , pour and let it breath, then nose and pick out flavours,then in for the taste,, apples, pears, marzipan, raisins, smoke, peat, salt lol highland park 18 wow,, glenmorangie signet wow, the glenlivit 18 just made me quiver hehe, well over to you now

Sadly, alcohol disagrees with me strongly nowadays - one glass of wine makes me wake up with my body thrumming, and feeling generally unwell, in the early hours, and two gins leave me feel befuddled for the whole of the next day. I feel like I've lost a friend Oh, and poor tooth enamel means that one Pimms leaves my teeth feeling as rough as sandpaper.

Buuut, if it wasn't for that, my summer lockdown drink would be gin, including long cool cocktails on the sunbed in the heat of the day. Or a cold pale beer. I used to enjoy whiskey, not that I'd be able to distinguish between the finer malts. We tended to drink Famous Grouse most of the time, but got some Bells in when OH's parents visited... they did like their whiskey but were even less discerning than us!

I've recently bought a Sodastream, and my 'tipple', if you can call is that, is plain sparkling water - I just use my imagination and pretend it's gin. And an indulgent sunbed drink might be a 'coke float' - add Sodastream cola syrup and a scoop of ice cream.

I don't drink often, but will admit to liking a Malt Whisky, never had a bad one but my fav is Oban. Unfortunately I can not get it often, but when I do I enjoy it.

A lovely l-o-n-g Pernod and lemonade, with one piece of ice on a hot day.

White wine, preferably in the garden on a sunny evening.

I also like a nice malt, I got a bottle of Orkney Malt as a gift last year but I haven't opened it. I really need to be in the right mood, and have the right circumstances like sitting by a log burner with snow outside, or outdoors with a West coast sunset (and you thought you were fussy @lurcherman ) so I'm waiting for the right time. Does anyone know what it's likely to be like?

I only have occasional little sip as my health conditions do not allow much alcohol consumption nor I enjoy the effects much anymore neither. But when I have, I have some rum at the bottom of my glass...proper Navy rum that is
But I don't spit into glass if I find some nice Whiskey or Brandy in there....or not so strong G&T, more for its refreshing qualities rather than the 'effects'.

I don't drink a lot of alcohol, so it has to be the best I can get. And yes: the glass does matter too. Within those limits, there is quite a lot of variety in what I enjoy.

A light fruity single malt (can't manage the smoky varieties) a bone-dry sherry, rich port, malmsey, cognac, armagnac, red wine. I do love champagne, but as Mr. Hemlock doesn't like it and I have no friends near enough to walk home from, that doesn't come my way very often.

I am also a bottled water connoisseur. Good rich coffee with cream, or Earl Grey tea on its own is a favourite too.

I forgot, I did have a glass of Prosecco last weekend, and actually felt fine after We have a bottle of champagne at Xmas and one at New Year and I'm able to tolerate that pretty well (though I don't half get tiddly). Unfortunately, there's not much chance of that being my regular lockdown tipple!

ME FUSSY Joanne , grumpy early mornings maybe but fussy I am not hehe, the Orkney malt then is either highland park or scapa? I’d say it’s HP, hey we all need a small drink from time to time in this weird world we live in today so I toast you all

I'd never heard of it before.

Yep it’s a highland park, they make some good stuff but not to everyone’s taste.

Glenlivet - but looking forward to a time when you can ask the barman to make you a Brandy Alexander again (instead of a pudding of course so you can feel almost virtuous).

I like a nice ruby ale or a porter but also enjoy a simple gin and fevertree tonic...(though during this lockdown I was wishing I hadn't given away loads of my sloe gin last christmas! I was eyeing up the blackberry bushes today thinking of future gins to make, so all is not lost...just a few months away!)

Like it says....a glass full of gin with a black berry. Same works with rhubarb...or strawberry...or.. I'll get me coat on....
