This forum used to be a great place to chat, look at whippet show results, general chat about whippets. Where has everyone gone?????????????

I was thinking exactly the same thing. :( It seems very quiet these days. Are people using Facebook nowadays or other forums? :-

I put a few photos on Chit Chat a couple of days ago and haven't had one comment.

I hope it will improve...I love K9...its such a shame a great forum going to waste....

dont let it die.....

Facebook has took over, and I feel its such a shame.... :( hardly anyone posts now.

I wondered if that was the reason Janis. It seems a real pity as I used to love K9.

I joined Facebook a while ago, but can't really get to grips with it. Does everyone have their own Facebook 'account' or is there specifically a K9 one (or whippet/lurcher related)?

Looking at the visitor figures there is a slight reduction compared to last year but generally things are looking pretty healthy. There has always been ups & down across different forums over the years but with there being more and more destinations available for viewers clicks I think K9 has faired very well.

This is a graph of daily visitors each day since January 2010 in comparison with 2009. You will see that we have been pretty consistent at around 2000 visitors per day for the last 2 years.

Are people perhaps visiting but not posting ... there has been a fair bit of atagonistic posting lately and I for one got a little tired of it ... I look to see what's here and then when nothing much is I go away. Memo to self ... must try harder !

Well said annie

I was told on here a while ago to 'Leave me well alone' too much of that on here i fear, now it seems it is happening on f/b too :( to quite a few

of us :(

Thanks for those figures Nigel. You do a great job. :)

I've switched to Facebook now for personal chat items. I didn't like it at first but have got used to it now, and it is more private. I'll still post about Fred whippet...but as he's 14 now , I don't go out with him anywhere as near as much as I used to. I was also put off K9 (again) recently by a vendetta against a certain member. I hate posts with hidden agendas and members with axes to grind. Their posts are so transparent...it really put me off for a while.

The beauty of facebook is that you add those who are friends as friends, ok this includes a few "virtual" friends but you get to pick and choose those who are like minded or have the same interests. On the other hand the diversity of folk on a forum can keep it interesting.....I don't know anything about vendetta's because I don't really know anyone on k9 so unless people are outright rude, then i wouldn't really know what was going on :clown:

I do agree that there are sometimes posts which seem to be a deliberate attempt to grind an axe and a barely disguised desire to cause argument and upset...sadly like in life, there will always be a small number of idiots with too much time on their hands and nothing better to do....I guess it's up to those of us who just want to share they joy of our dogs, to keep things going.....to that end maybe we should all trawl through our photographs or go take a few more and make sure we post a few updates if we haven't done so for a while.

I very rarely post on here now..usually just look now...too much argueing for my liking

if you dont "show" you aint wanted, even posts on numbers caught in the Working section get deleted, far more people keep whippets as pets and workers than "show"

2000 a day get real Nigel all that graph shows is how many times the site is logged onto by the same members and various bots or search engines, and that is all, this ISNT a very friendly site to those that work their dogs, and when people try and be sincere such as devondogs who incidently I dont know, then the bitchy remarks start, one thing that did shock me was the amount of the members from here that started to visit our site, and stay................. some have even posted that they wont come back to here because of the bitchiness and some of those are some of whom I labelled as part of the witches coven(for my sins), I have had some of the members on here tell me that my dogs dont love me and are terrified of me because I work them lol and offer them forever homes, I have had members from here ring me and scream abuse at me, this site is dying you all know it and there is a very evident two tier system of moderation on here no matter what nigel says to me.

I have to agree with you Darren to a point. I show and race and have been blasted by certain racing people, and the odd show person, in fact I had one show person phone me up and threaten me.

Water of a ducks back. (w00t)

It seems to be a waste of time trying to explain what you are trying to say.

So, I just drop in, have a look, post if there is some thing that interests me.

It's a shame, I used to enjoy the banter on K9, but certain people have spoiled it for me.

unfortunatly the self appointed saviours of whippets with their narrow minded views have caused a lot of bad feeling as have those only useing the site to cause bad feeling often with ulteria motives.

unfortunatly that has drove a lot of good peope away people who have the knoledge needed by new members, it makes me laugh when I read replys that have obviously just been copy/pasted from a google search rather than years of experiance with the breed in question.

Darren I am with you on this, (to be fair you normally write what a lot of other people are thinking but ar ethe only one who has the balls to come out and say it)

I don't claim to work my dog hard, 2 or 3 nights on the lamp a week and a day or 2 out ferreting but nothing major. He is no world beater but being a rescue i think he has done well.

It seems as though the only people who post on here are the same people who are winning everything at shows. Me and the OH are looking to get a whippet when we eventually move, but too many of them are breed purely for showing and we would want it for working and a bit of racing.

I stopped going on the poachers rest forum because a lot of the members (who consequently seem to have left the poachers rest) were digging and bitching at any advice i was giving. Yes i havent had long dogs for 20 years, probably cos im only 22 and my parents kept gun dogs when i lived at home. But now i use the poachers rest forum more as the bitching that was going on on there has moved back to this site. You can have a laugh on the PRest and post pictures of dogs doing what they were originally bred to do.

My dog loves me and doesnt fear me, he loves doing what comes naturally and he is a fit healthy dog. And looking at pics of your dog that you have on the poachers rest darren i can happily say that if my bitch wasnt a rescue and spayed id travel the miles from cornwall for him to cover her, he looks well cared for happy and content

Please stop the bitching on here guys- you are killing your own forum. It's like you only want certain members on here and everybody else is not welcome

I must have my eyes shut then lol....I seem to miss most of the negative stuff :teehee: the joy of not actually knowing anyone (w00t)

I don't know what the trouble has been but think that blame can be laid in all camps and like in life it's often six of one and half a dozen of the other.

I can't see anything wrong with showing/working or just keeping whippets etc as pets, it's surely each to his own.

I thought the whole point of all the different sections on a forum was so everyone could post and enjoy sharing their different pursuits.....hence why I don't really post in showing or working/racing sections( other than to admire someone's dog)because my whippet is simply my much loved pet.

much like every level of life there will always be a small number of people who cause bad feeling or upset and the thing to do is ignore them....i would not let someone's comments spoil my joy of my dogs or my desire to share that with others.......if someone makes a negative or inflammatory comment on a thread, the best response is to ignore it and just carry on sharing the greatness of our dogs...at the end of the day it's the dogs themselves that matter and maybe sometimes people need to put their sensibilities to one side and just enjoy the forum as it is intended to be.......any arguments and negativity only win out and spoil the forum if we let them.

The forum can only die if we all just let it. I am a member of several forums and enjoy different aspects of all of them which is why i cannot choose and say whether one is better than another....there are (on all the forums I am a member of) a few people who are just of an argumentative nature, some are quite rude, others quite stupid but there are an awful lot of really decent, really friendly and really great people who all want to share the joy of their dogs and the things they do with them.

The forum is what we make it and maybe just blaming a small group of people is a bit unbalanced since we too are forum members and we can still make it a good place to visit......
