Mostly "is that a greyhound pup" and "you want to try feeding the poor things"but now and again you will come across people who will say "oh wow what lovely whippets you have" which does bring a big smile to my face. :)

Said by little boy aged about 5 to his dad (about Holly),

"Look at that dog dad, it's got Tiger fur"

Very funny i thought!

One young lad quipped to his mate in the park once about Fred, "that dog is one dimensional, you can't see him from the front.' :p

this is what i get with the shibas.

is it a fox/wolf/husky?

with the manchester terriers i used to get oh look baby dobermanns!

I get get ask if Dippy is a greyhound or a whippet and when I say both...I get asked how can that happen...

I get asked if Inca is a miniture wolfhound...

I once had a man on a bike stop me and ask if you could have a cuddle. (w00t) of course he meant Sparky. It turned out he had a whippet bitch and he's now one of my dog walking buddies but he's never asked for a cuddle since. :D

We've had most of the above, but the best was from a drunk (and rather articulate young man) when I just had Tess and she was about 8 months old and hairing round the park like a little nutter:

'look at that bat eared monkey dog!'

I have to admit that that one stuck and she often gets called the bat eared monkey dog now. (w00t)

Seem to get the same questions and comments when out and about, heres a few favourates!
Is that a greyhound or a whippet?

Is that a small greyhound?

Is she a Lurcher?

Do you have to run her alot?

Do you race her?

Any others you get constantly?

Look at that dog - obviously starved!

the usual as above and

'aww! what happened to your dog?!'

'that dogs got a skinny head' (w00t)

'there's a hyena'

the nicest from an old lady in the park when Ella had her posh brown velvet martingale and matching lead on (with tassels)

'oh, she's so glossy, look at her lovely collar, she's the Kate Moss of dogs'

I agree

If I walk the greyhound with the whippets I get-

Is the big one the little ones mum? The greyhund is William

and the other one is

Let us know when the greyhound is racing so I can have a bet on it

At which point I have to explain that William is a show dog not a racer they then ask

It's still a greyhound in't it?

I also get the ones about needing a good feed

I have to keep telling then he is a fall greyhound.

Some people wont belive me when i tell them he is a greyhound and he has no weimaraner in him

  i once had refering to phoebe : is it a weimanarer pup,: ,i ask you

"mum look at those skinny dogs" i say under my breathe (no they are normal whippets you stupid fat child)

"awww look at those lovely greyhounds" (Whippets you halfwit)

"i'll have money on trap six" ( ho ho ho )

" do you race"....i say no...." oh they must be rescues then" (yawn)

" are they microchipped?" strangely been asked that a few times. (omg walk fast boys)

"They're a bit big for whippets aren't they" (wanna see their pedigrees you moron)

"shame they can't live with cats" (oh they can live with cats, it's just stupid people they chase down and kill)

"which one's the fastest" (me ya numbskull (w00t) )

"bet my dog is faster than them" (of course it would be wouldn't it after all a beer bellied twenty stone man could out run Linford Christie too.....hisss)

I get the strangest questions about Mac, because he does look a bit odd... What do you feed him, look at those muscles. Is he on steroids. Is he a fox (!?!).

But I will never forget my sweet grandmother in Norway. One time she was walking her two gorgeous whippet girlies, Inca and Bianca, a little old lady said loudly: Look at those ugly skinny dogs! My grandmother replied calmly: Well, have you had a look at yourself in the mirror today??

End of discussion..... Hehe

I get the baby greyhound one all the time, in fact in the 8 years I've had whippets, I've only had one young lad identify them as being whippets and that was about a fortnight ago!

The one I always get whilst out walking mine is ''oo you've got your hands full there!'' ironically, it's usually folk struggling with a huge dog that's pulling them over!!

'look at that bat eared monkey dog!'
(w00t) (w00t) Thanks! this one made me laugh so much!

ive had a few say "oh its soft" what did they expect ????????

Are you taking them or are they taking you? IF YOU HAVE TO COME OUT WITH ANYTHING AT LEAST MAKE IT ORIGINAL OR A TEENY BIT FUNNY!!!

And whilst biking Ella i usually get "that's the easy way" OK WELL YOU TRY HANGING ON WHEN SHE TAKES OFF AFTER A CAT

And ewwwwww look at them thin dogs. NO ACTUALLY YOU NOB HEAD I'M TRYING TO WALK OFF THE CONTENTS OF THE BIN SHE RAIDED 3 DAYS BEFORE THE CHAMPS.

I've had all of the above. One of my Whippets is lame from an injury years ago and she often illisits responses like "they're such fragile things". If only thet'd seen her 5 mins before running like a mad thing in the sand dunes!

At a recent exhibition of Whippet racing a Very drunk man came up to me. From what I could gather he had worked trapping greyhounds at a race track. His comment that made me smile was "they whippets is fast".!!!!

Frequent comment from the old boys seems to be 'Whippet? No, paid for it fair and square!'

Well done boys, my sides are splitting, tell me another :p

i get all the above

the one that makes me smile is when they say when are they going to grow into there ears
