Vets used to always advise spaying after a first season, but opinions have changed with most Vets now..unless the bitch has infantile vaginitis we always recommend spaying before the first season, and that is also the recommendation of the RCVS. Spaying a bitch can lead to urinary incontinence...
The advice that we give to clients on this is to spay BEFORE the first season..this zeroes out all possibilities of mammary tumours in later life, a bitch doesnt need to ahve a season or a litter..its much safer to spay them at about 6m. Old style thinking was to allow a season then to spay...
I didnt realise that Dog Wardens could help either..we were walking in an MOD range so it wouldnt have come under council bylaws anyway, but that's worth knowing..
Oweeee...poor Murphy, that's going to take a bit of stitching, bad place too. What a shame. If both dogs were off lead with the altercation happened you will struggle to get the owner to pay..the Police wont want involved either..it then becomes a civil matter if you want to take it further. Our...
I keep thinking that they have maybe be set up by the Portugese Police, who lets face it have not been the most switched on so far, how easy would it have been to have placed these samples in their car? Someone on another forum was saying maybe they should find out who the car was hired out to...
Just back from a week-end away in the caravan at Thirelstane Castle in the Borders, i wouldnt normally dream of taking such a young pup away but he was a star, clean and well behaved..he had such a great time, everyone on the site wanted a piece of him...and he was happy to oblige! He played...
No, i'm aware toddlers arent the same as puppies...my point is that animals or children need interaction and attention, saying they sleep for 8hrs over night isnt the same.
If you cope with your circumstances then great, all i'm saying is that i wouldnt home puppies to people who work f/t.
Lol @ gutsey!! I think its different with ault dogs, yes, in saying that i still wouldnt leave an adult dog all day on its own..some dogs never get the chance to go out for a walk/pee..i often ask these clients if they use the loo during the day..funnily enough they do..but their poor dog doesnt...
My honest opinion..i think it selfish to take on a puppy if you work f/t..you wouldnt leave a toddler alone for several hours left to his/her own devices..so why a pup..pups need guidance, socialisation and company. Most of the behavioural cases with pups i have seen recently are pups left alone...
I would probably have him checked over by the Vet, it may even be worth having some bloods taken for geriatric profiling, this will give the vets an idea of how his vital organs are functioning and to what level. Often in geriatric dogs a change in food can help..it may be worth just feeding him...
Jake, our current pup..a Beddy x Whippet..has never made noise at all..from the age of 6w..but Holly the PRT was a crier at night..i tried it all..DAP, soft toys, hot water bag etc..the one thing that i found that worked (controversial one!) was to put her out for her last pee, take her upstairs...
How do you feel about this? Would you rehome a pup to full time workers? We are about to begin planning a litter of pups from the Wire Vizsla and several enquiries have been from people who work f/t - our response to these enquiries have been a total NO..it doesnt always get a good response when...
We have had him since he was 7w old..i cant imagine life without him now! I only work 12hrs a week but its great to be able to take him with me, clients and staff alike all love him coming along.
He is a cutie, isnt he?! (w00t) He's a real one for the ladies, especially young girls in low tee-shorts..honestly he gives me a red face, he gets his nose right in there and then just sits in their arms and looks innocent! o:)
Tumours in feet are hugely common, but we do see them, not all of them are nasty tumours though, its always wise to have the lump sent for histiopathology if the Vet thinks its worth doing. We had a little dog in the surgery on Monday, she is now recovering from an op to remove what turned out...
He is fab, sooo clever and funny, he runs around with all the adult dogs, comes to work with me and loves everyone..we havent had one piece of paper down in the house as he toilets outside..he is an amazing, cuddly little soul. (w00t)
