I'm a it worried about Molly. I've read about bitches being 'puppy proud' but I'm really quite shocked by Molly's behaviour. She wont now allow us to touch the pups at all - fine, that's what I thought puppy proud would be like. But since the birth she hasn't left the whelping box for a second...
I know... I think I'm just going to have to be a pain in the bum and be really fussy at the home vetting stage. I just hope that potential buyers who are really keen and have nothing to hide will put up with my noseyness.
My bitch (bedlington x lakeland) is expecting pups to a whippet/bedlington x JR terrier. What price ought I to set in order 'weed out the undersirables'? I will vet the homes too, but it would be useful to have a 'filter'.
Molly was mated on 4th October, so I think that's a due date of 7th Dec? The vets are on stand by - well, they know the due date anyway. I took her for a scan the other week - we counted three or possibly four pups :)
I haven't got 'The Book of the Bitch' but I shall try to buy it (there is a...
Thanks for the good wishes and tips :)
Either my daughter or OH ought to be around - hopefully they'll keep me 'grounded'. I do have books but not the one mentioned - I'll look out for it but I'm not sure it would arrive in time!
I'm really excited but so so nervous. I'll keep you updated...
My bitch (Molly) is due to whelp on 7th Dec, although she looks huge and I've a feeling it could be anytime now.
I've never bred a litter before and despite doing lots of reading I'm terriied. Any tips / advice appreciated. Also, one specific thing - Molly generally chooses to sleep on the...
They're all jabbed. Wish I was, they're all over the place :x The yard owner (it's a livery yard) put poison down last week but it has not made much odds (as yet anyway). How long until it's safe for my dogs to have a go at the rats with out poisoning them?
That's right, I remember now, the terrier / lurcher dog show used to be held at New Park too - I popped along to have a look one year, late 90s? I have googled and come up with the name 'New Forest Lurcher, Terrier and Ferret Club'. I guess it may have disbanded now...
I love the New...
 Small world! I think it was the Tuesday I spoke to them (I was there all three days), so maybe it was your OH - a chap with a beard I think? Anyway, no offence taken - I thought it was said tongue in cheek :p
I'm sure that there used to be a New Forest Terrier and Lurcher Club, but at the NF show last week no one seemed to know any thing about it - I asked the CA people. (Also got told by the coursing people that 'lurcher' was a swear word :b  )
I'm near the hants / dorset border - anyone...
Is Dorset too far? I think Rupert's (see photo in my avatar) sister is still looking for a home. She's nearly 9 moths old though. She is Whippet / Bedlington x Jack Russell.
Thanks for the replies. I will look for a suitable club :)
I've got two terriers - a pure beddie and a lakeland x beddie, plus the young lurcher dog (whippet/bedlington x JR). The land I have in mind is soooo over run with rabbits - they hop about in broad daylight only 50 metres or so in...
... but I'm not sure how to go about it. I've read books and articles etc but am still rather daunted by the whole thing. I've never even seen terriers / lurchers at work - I feel I need practical advise / help. Would joining a terrier / lurcher club be my best bet? Any other suggestions (I'm a...
