Thankyou. Yes, the second one is a lapwing. We have a lot of widgeon on the lake behind, they are of a similar size but differently marked, and very nervous. This little one was very friendly and came right up to the bank to have her photo taken. It took quite a lot of searching but looks very...
Thankyou - both of them have been a bit under the weather with a bit of a tummy bug, but hopefully will have cleared up by then, as it will be nice to meet up again.
Sorry to hear about the injuries, hope that we hear some better news before too long.
Gutted we had to miss it. Elizabeth had to pop to Swansea to look after parents, and I had to cancel as both the boys had diarrhoea the day before (probably nothing serious). Congrats to all the winners...
Sorry to hear your troubles Jayne. I missed all the drama by leaving early, but it really sounds like it must have been horrendous. I hope she starts feeling better soon. :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:
Nice Pics Chris - good one of Gelert doing his stuff in the first round. Thanks Hannah for letting us have two exciting runs.
Did anyone see the scores for the second round?
Although we live actually on the edge of the city, we are in the middle of a complex of ancient water meadows and other fragments of land that are no good for agriculture, all pretty wild and inaccessible and mostly completely unmanaged. We have no intensive agriculture nearby either. There is...
Bit of fuss last night when Mrs Owl (or maybe Mr Owl) arrived with a delicious looking dead mouse.
Only one of them got to eat it:
The other two just looked on grumpily
Yes - they are tawny owls. Barn owls have the beautiful white heart shaped mask, even as chicks. They were out as dusk fell last night so it was quite easy to see them even without a torch. Mother turned up briefly, but saw us and flew off. I probably ought to build a hide or something.
One of the spookiest, but most exciting wildlife experiences I have had. I really didn't expect to see 3 large ghostlike birds sitting above my head just staring at me, and not particularly bothered by the torchlight. I might try hanging around until the parents come to feed them. The most...
Went out armed with a torch and camera at midnight, determined to get to the bottom of the strange screeching noises
There were three of them and two moved off. I will try again another night and see if I can get all three.
I am more of a lurker, than a poster, so I tend not to get involved in these arguments. But you are right, they have gone way beyond what is fair comment and robust argument. The test is - how would you feel if you were a member of the group being assaulted. Our ethnicity and nationality is an...
We have a Nikon D50. We bought it from Jessops and took the option of going for a better lens than the standard one - AF-S Nikkor 18-70. The standard lens is supposedly a bit less crisp, and the zoom only goes to 50. I think Nikon have now brought out the D40, which seems to be pretty much as...
Ah poor Zeb. Peace rules here as well -_- .
Must walk them together again sometime, now Guto has discovered that he can't walk on water he might take a bit more care!
