hey, got the pups 5 gen pedigrees through and im a bit confussed

i know the champs are sappose to be red, and having checked the whippet archives for mum and dad, (mum wasnt there) well dad has a few wcrch in his ped and vc and stuff but it doesnt show up on my 5gen?

does the kc only recognise showing champs, and is that why they are not red?

seems a little unfair and the top racers :(

Yes I think thats the way it, is only showing champions :( and your right its not fair imo

When I used to breed I always put the racing names and racing champions on the 5 generation pedigree form in green.

Katie the KC does only recognise show champions :( which I think is a bit sad, but I put pedigree names and racing names (in red if they have a title) on my pedigrees :D Did you get pedigrees from the Kennel Club, or did the breeder do them? How are your pups bred? They are certainly good lookers  It would be interesting for us racing folk to know what racers are behind them

June, Parkstone Buttons (WCRCh Kerrys Boy x Parkstone Sweet Harmony) is the father of them.

Katie, we always put both KC & racing names (in brackets) on the pedigrees with racing champions in blue.

June i got the pedigree from the kc, thats why i was a bit confussed that there are only 6 champs on it, when there should be 9 on dads side alone,

dad is parkston buttons like mark said, and mum is jacquies choice, who isnt on thw hippet archives so had to go back 2gens to find any of them on mums side that where listed. i only had a quick look yesterday for some of their ancestors, but im going to look propperly today.

oh dear dont like the thought of writting on this  what if i mess it up :sweating: i think i shall need to research both sides alot before i start writing on it,

that is a real shame that the racers arent on it though :(

Yes, that's what I'd do Katie - write out your own - or do it on the computer. I do a card cover, and a paper insert - makes them look quite posh :p I put pedigree names, and racing names in italics, and make them red where they have a title. The title may not mean much to the KC, but they mean a hell of a lot to us racers

When we used to race (20yrs ago) out whippets had different kc names to racing names, is that still common practice ???

Yes it is still common practice .....Sue Wards and Mark seem to race most of theirs with their kc names though .... It gets confusing  lol

Yes Katie, you can pick any name you like, as long as it's not in use or registered as an affix with the WCRA. I try wherever possible to stick to the same names for racing, as I have for KC registration. We did change our mind with Smidge though - he was going to be Mighty Topolino, Topolino is Italian for little mouse, and our Dangermouse is his granny(and is very small), and of course his dad Sweep is Mighty Mouse, so we asked for Mighty Topolino as a pedigree name from his breeder - but everyone knows him as Smidge, and so he has become Whiphaven Mighty Smidge

its all very interesting, :D i think we shall need to have a go at racing just so we can at least get a racing name :- "

well i have uploaded their details to the whippet archives and it does a pedigree for you at the bottom (w00t) so thats made it far easier than having to flick through pages of dogs :sweating: can believe how far back you can go, if only tracing your own family back was this easy lol.

think im going to have to do some serious work on this to get there peds with all the info i want on them,

thanks guys for all your help

That all sounds interesting stuff Katie  .

I would like to see all the racing names on Skye's too as Phoebe's one has and we are going to get them put in a frame with a picture :) . I'll be sending off for mine next week but want to speak to someone at KC first to see how much trouble it would be getting her colouring changed :))

And you should definitely have a go at racing even if it's just some trials as they LOVE it

the names all mean very little to me, but i have been informed the Gem is very well show bred, so no wonder our lot are gorgeous

i have got nothing done today as i have spent the whole day looking through there pedigree, and looking up titles and all sorts :- "

let me know if you get the colour changed, im not to fussed about ruby and star because you could argue that they are tan colour, or sand or cream or fawn or silver fawn, its just that whippets are not usually classed as tan

Yes I'll let you know how easy/hard it is to get done :)) .

Just hope Lynne's turn up soon too :(

I would Kate if I were you, those colours are clearly not correct.

I personally would have put Blue brindle with white trim....correct me anyone if Im wrong... :b

Here's a few to get you going - Judy is the one to tell you - she knows EVERYTHING :D That's why she's known as The Oracle

Casaloma Perry's Boy = WCRCh Logans Boy, Casaloma Sea Pigeon = WCRCh Jolly, Kemerton Khaki = WCRCh Muffin, Papadero Camelia = WCRCh VC On A Promise, Nile Dreamboat of Khartoum = WCRCh Blazer

Hope this helps with your research
